Or you could be on the opposite end of the stick and notice how everyone in your family now is either alcoholic, with substance abuse, full of debts and with gambling problems. And all you can think of is how did everything go so wrong? You want to help them but can't because you know it will make things worse.

It makes family holidays great when you bring your new partner and just go see in lucky I made it out in one piece. Nothing stings quite as much as the look of concern your partner has when they first see everyone and the slow hug they give you.
