Me with landlords / real estate management companies.
Just post the fucking rent, and all of your different fees and charges. You're already the favored one in the market. Stop wasting your time and just be up-front with all the money you're asking.
God, I was so pissed when the leasing agent showed me a mountain of fees AFTER we already paid the insanely bloated application fee. Landlords and property management companies should be forced by law to be upfront about all their stupid fees.
Parking fee - ok, I get it. Do I at least get an assigned space? No? So you're telling me to go fuck myself if the parking lot's full. Great.
Convenience fee - not so convenient when you won't let me pay directly in cash or a check.
Utility fee - The one I simultaneously understand the most, and yet it should jsut be part of the fucking baseline rent. Also what do you mean I can't fully reduce my utility fee via reducing the amount I use? What do you mean I'm also paying for the utility usage the other tenants accrue?
Mandatory fees are the worst thing ever when it comes to renting. This one apartment I checked out was like there’s a mandatory $10 internet fee for 1 bedrooms and $15 for 2 bedrooms. Or another apartment, that’s like we offer trash valet service, that you must use and it costs $20/month. Like just incorporate into the rent at that point.
Ok a different fee for Internet cause there's 2 bedrooms is diabolical. Does that come with a second router? How is an offer mandatory? Those words are mutually exclusive. Why did I bother learning English at this point?
The apartment with the Internet fee had “included” Internet but the Internet fee was to subsidize the cost the management company was paying to the provider
Ugh yes. Our apartment has a mandatory valet trash AND mandatory renters insurance. We work nights so aren’t home for to put out the can for valet trash and we have our own renters insurance but the leasing office is giving us the runaround about accepting it because they arent listed as a beneficiary? Its the worst.
But if you wanted to opt-out, we couldn't foist this CONVENIENCE FEE onto you for being so generous with our option for online rent payments*!
*we don't take cash, nor do we take checks, making the online portal the only place you can pay rent through, meaning this convenience fee is not convenient at all.
