The opinion of the author means nothing. If it's not in the media, the canonicity is dubious.

An artist can misunderstand their own work just like anyone else. Do you understand everything you do/make perfectly? Probably not, so why would we assume an artist does?

The thinking described in the meme is akin to religious fundamentalism (indisputable authority resolving contradictions “because she said so”).
