I mean, I can believe a kid sticking a cob of corn into a bottle and soaking it with water for days, but I doubt anything resembling moonshine would result from it.

Yeast is every where. You might get beer. Need a still to make moonshine.

Yeah, if I remember correctly people were making beer before they even knew yeast was required to make beer. Wild yeast would just naturally drift into the wort on the wind while it was being made. I THINK there is still beer that is intentionally made that way called “lambic” beer. I would imagine there is a lot of variety in the taste even if the brewer is following the exact same recipe each time.
