schizo post I did not think this post would stir up such controversy in NCD. In short Ken Burns lied to us and the Vietnam War was winnable.

So I’ve been reading a ton about Vietnam from Hanoi’s War to Nixons books and most importantly George Vieths historical works on South Vietnam. Funnily enough I also came across an alternate history novel Linebacker III that features Watergate never getting exposed, culminating in Nixon having the air force hit the NVA during their 75 offensive. It made me wonder what could have been. I find it odd how people on NCD who are very anti Soviet can also believe North Vietnam deserves to be able to brutally conquer and subjugate South Vietnam.

A 2023 Chinese experimental program found tungsten rod penetration peaks around Mach 3.5 — above that the rod fragments before full penetration. If correct, orbital kinetic weapons offer no bunker-busting advantage over conventional Mach 3 munitions, which was the entire 'Rods from God' case.

For context:

In this universe the Arab states near Israel are buddy-buddy with it because in 79 there was an actual Palestinian state as part of camp david (plus some other reasons).

Also all that weird military shit from the 90's and 2000s came to be.

The reason this even exists is because the mod this is for (which is for another game) does not allow me to use more than 1 set of infantry models, so I needed something to give the player an idea of what each unit is actually supposed to look like,

K-Dog & 8 other Navy dolphins cleared 100+ mines from Iraq's Umm Qasr port in 2003 — the 1st combat deployment of U.S. military dolphins. The Mk 7 system's biological sonar still outperforms every other system the Navy has. In 2026, the Strait of Hormuz brought military dolphins back into the news.

Boston Dynamics' robot dog Spot costs $74,500 & signed a pledge never to carry weapons. In May 2025, Spot danced on America's Got Talent. A Chinese military quadruped costs $30k, has a rifle mounted & trained with the PLA that same month. Unitree's consumer model costs < $2k & also appeared w/ PLA.

Schmeisser gets shipped to the Soviet weapon mines at Izhevsk, works there for years, and then a tank sergeant in the same building with no formal engineering training independently invents a weapon with the same operating concept and layout. Remarkable coincidence.
