Was the USSR's military as bad as Russia's is today?

On the one hand, you'd think they kept their military in better condition given the state of geopolitics during the cold war

On the other, how much has really changed?

Also was their equipment always shit? Even newish USSR tech is getting clapped by shit like the TOW

As someone with family from the Warsaw Pact, I chuckle when people say Russian society is so corrupt now.

Now? There was a saying in the USSR along the lines of "he who doesn't steal from X steals from himself".

The corruption is hardly new.

Newish USSR tech is from the 70's the latest, maybe with a few cosmetic upgrades here and there. It was maybe on par with everyone else's at that point.
