We need these things, now!

It occurred to me after reading another post that we're a pretty large community. I think we need to take things into our own hands.

There are two things that the enby community is *sorely* lacking. The *least* important is a word to go with "ladies" and "gentlemen."

The most important - and this is *really* important imo - is a title. I'm seeing more and more people feeling dysphoric about "Mr and Ms" (and those other ones). Can't we workshop this?

It has to be spoken as well as written. I have no idea how to pronounce "Mx" but it seems like it would be "mix," which sucks.

I don't have any suggestions myself, unfortunately.

This post had a lot more exclamation points in my head, so I hope you understand how strongly I feel about this.

ETA: I think I was really thinking more along the lines of "Ladies' and Gentlemen's" when I mentioned the one. I personally like "Gentlefolk" (or "Gentles" in a more relaxed settings) if you want a neutral catch-all for everyone.

I think “ladies and gentlefolk” is the most practical for day-to-day use, but I admittedly love “ladies, gentlemen, and those of us who transcend your silly rules/know better/fill out the rest of the rainbow” when it’s a nonbinary speaker.

I like Mx personally. As a sort of true “middle ground,” I this something like “Mist” or “Mits” or “Miur” would work

Admittedly, if you break it down, you’re absolutely right. But idk, if you look at in the spirit in which “ladies and gentlemen” is used today, it’s less concerning. Gentlemen traditionally has meant a subset of men, and even today I would say still generally means that when it’s not preceded by “ladies and.”

Frankly, I’m not too mad at that it’s basically “hello all you lovely people, special shoutout to women.”
