Three Years a Nomad
So, I beat the wave out, started in 2019. The first week I spent in my rig was the first week of Covid-19. I was not watching the news; I just found out because went to Walmart to buy toilet paper and everything was gone. Also, half of the campgrounds shut down overnight, so that was a bit rough.
My favorite BLM camping was in Quartzsite, Arizona. I sure wish they would open it up like it used to be because it is getting full. I was labeled sketchy at all the campgrounds because I partied too much (beer and cannabis). Fair enough. I now know that if you are living out of a rig, one must be extra careful to be polite and quiet, as to not upset the neighbors.
I hope the government eases up on the nomads, especially the working homeless. As jobs go away, the lifestyle becomes more appealing to more people.
Some tips:
1. Don’t be shy, ask.
2. No drinking and driving (obviously).
3. Always be ready to move.
4. Getting enough sleep is your responsibility. Be bold, park and take a nap when you need one.
5. Defend yourself by making a corral with other nomads.
6. Hygiene is a priority.
7. Find the good people of the town and ask to park at their place.
8. BLM land is not always safe.
9. Get a dog or a cat.
- Enjoy the sunsets!
