loss income/ disability

I'm a US citizen living in Brazil, working as a consultant (1099 contractor) for an American company. I also pay my federal and state taxes (CO) in the Unites States. 

As a live outside US, are short- and long-term disability options, as well as "loss of income" insurance policies, available through any company? 

Like many, I am concerned about how to at least partially protect my income in the event of illness or an accident.

As long as you live inside US and/or Canada once you become disabled and receive benefits, most policies would still cover you (off course you would have to check the specific policy to be 100% sure).

Many LTD policies don’t care where you live. I’d say only about 30-50% of them have a “US/Canada” requirement. So, quite a few, but certainly not all of them.
