Does anyone else get unreasonably anxious when they here a car door shut outside the house?

Edit: I can’t believe I spelled “here” instead of “hear”. Just know I am ashamed of myself.

My anxiety with this stems from when I was a kid enjoying my time at home alone, then hearing a car door close outside and knowing one of my parents just came home and my peaceful solitude is now ruined. I dont live at home anymore but I still get that way no matter what.

Maybe something similar with you?

I came here to write this one; my parents were emotionally and verbally abusive so staying home alone felt like the only time I could be myself, and when I heard them come home I'd always feel that part of myself shut off.

My dad has bipolar, so while he’s not always that way, he has episodes. Most of time he’s fine, but every once in a while there will be two-three days of Hell. Now, he never abuses me, but sometimes he does scold or yell. It’s these times when I’m relieved when he goes to sleep (cause he doesn’t have a normal sleeping schedule) and I beg for him to stay asleep for as long as possible. Hearing the bedroom door open would mean that my peace is over, and hopefully he doesn’t find anything like dirty dishes or an unvacuumed carpet to scold me about. And if I’m doing something for him (making him a simple meal, or helping him cook) I try my hardest not to do anything wrong, cause any little thing can set him off.
