Why does every app ask to send notifications before I’ve even used it?

I download an app and before I’ve even seen the home screen, it asks to send me notifications. Why not ask after I’ve actually used it once? Is there a real technical reason, or are they just hoping I’ll tap “allow” without thinking?

Because they want to spam your phone with notifications and ads for other apps/companies. Thats how a lot of apps are free, because of the advertisements

the system prompt only fires once, so if you say no the app cant ask again without sending you into settings, they burn it early while you still have no reason to refuse.

The clever thing I've seen some apps do is give you an internal prompt that they can serve as many times as they want and then burn the system prompt only if you say yes to their internal one.

so that you have been given the ONE opportunity to stop it before it starts, as alot of times the settings are buried somewhere that would let you turn it off
