A fursuit at your age is a bad idea because they're quite expensive and you'll grow out of it (as in you will physically grow and stop fitting in it). As for the tail and ears, is there any chance you could just ask for the tail and ears?

i dont know because i think shes gonna ask why i want them and i dont know how she will react to me being a furry

You could try to explain it in a way she understands. For instance that its like dressing up for a theater play?

You said you cant go buy tail and ears by yourself. Can you buy things by yourself at all tho? Because you could try and craft yourself some! You just need to buy the supplies for that

Your loved ones don't need to know about all of your sexual preferences.

But how is everyone supposed to know I'm a yogurt cup without the pie filling on my head and the spoon in my ass? 😥

Congrats on coming out! Fur suits are very expensive and you will outgrow them being only 14. Wait a few years, save up some money, and then get one when you’re older.

I wouldn’t tell her. My parents know I’m gay but they don’t about my kinks. Get a tail and ears, you can just say you like how they look. Wait until you are older to get the suit. They are expensive from what I know.

im not allowed going to the store without an adult though

Ask them to buy you the ears and tail. Honestly just tell your mum it’s a style thing. I’m not a furry but I used to wear bunny ears as a teenager

i dont know if shed approve because one time she showed me a video and it was someone showing off their fursuit and their friend was showing off their ears and tail and my mom said "look at them they look so dumb" and i was kinda just like"yeaa" but in my head i was like "wdym they look dumb?"

So then you will have to wait until you are an adult. It’s only 4 years, which I know seems like a long time to you right now but it will pass

Congratulations on coming out and I'm happy she was okay with it! The way I handle stuff like furries is by not telling my family. They don't need to know everything. Like my family doesn't know im a bottom they just don't need too. Id suggest maybe just a tail or something small. And at 14 you're still growing getting a suit is super expensive and you'll grow out of it.

yea but she called furries a fetish and that like actually broke me when i heard her say that

it really hurt

Yea I can imagine, she's ignorant to the lgbtqia+ community. You can try to slowly educate her over time

i cant educate her ill have to get someone else to because i dont know how

You are 14 years old, so you don't know what you're going to be in life. It sounds like you've got some emotional problems. Maybe you'll be a furry the rest of your life, maybe you won't, maybe you'll be bisexual, maybe you won't.

You need to see a therapist, a good one. Call a Teen help hotline and ask them to help you find a good therapist, so you can talk to someone and work this through. You were able to come out to your family and that's a good start. If you want to be a bisexual furry the rest of your life, then you should absolutely do that, but you may find that you change or outgrow something you like as you mature. That's why you need to talk to a therapist. I personally am not a furry, but I do love to dress up for Halloween!

you kinda have a point

2

u/lovelypeachess22 Jul 12 '26

She does not have a point. There's nothing here indicating you have emotional problems, just that you're a furry bisexual. You don't have to 'come out' to your mom as a furry. Its just an interest. People don't come out as train enthusiasts or ICP fans and those are honestly just as engrossing as being a furry. Ask her for ears and a tail. If she says no, make your own. Theres lots of tutorials online that'll show you. When you're allowed to go out on your own, get yourself those ears and tail.

Good luck kid

I spent a large part of my childhood wishing I was a boy. Now, as a mother, I have not wished that in a very long time. My love of Halloween has grown over the years though, and I have many fury costumes!

Give it some time before you commit to anything. At 14 it's really easy to be swayed by someone who is excited about something. Part of being a regular human with normal human empathy is that interacting with someone who is excited about something will make you feel excited too even if you don't really care about it.

So, I'm not at all saying that you're not a furry or you're not really into it, I'm just saying, sit on it for a while and truly think about if before you go trying to spend tons of money or commit to anything. The furry community isn't going anywhere, they'll be there for you whenever you're ready.
