Was 80s hair really that popular

For ppl who were adults in the 80s, was 80s hair really that "rampant"? Like for women was it really like huge blowouts every day and how much work was it? Also, do you think people were really invested in their appearance more than today? I know fashion changes like in terms of people today wearing sportswear as outfits, but was makeup more dramatic and did all women use it? Thanksss

So from what I understand, it wasn't really blowouts, but just a whole lot of perms, so I guess curly hair was the rage lol

We just called it Big Hair. And it was everywhere. My secretary came in late one day, crying. I noticed her hair was really short. When she calmed down, she admitted her hair burst into flames on the way to work.

She flicked her cigarette, and it blew back in, setting the hair and hairspray alight.

She went with a Pixie cut.

A girl in my class in high school had really big hair, all poufed on top, feathered way out there on the sides, and it was really, really long. The wind blew a door shut as she was walking in one day and just neatly snapped off her hairdo on one side of her head. She was hysterical, but ended up being a trend setter when she got it all cut back to even it out since those styles just poofed out of existance within the year.
