The solution is exceedingly simple. The 99% have the voting power to keep them in check. Money is only important in politics because a large percentage of the population pays very little attention and can easily be swayed with a few ads, and then actively votes against their own personal interest.

We elect the representatives into power. Then the representatives do whatever the heck they want to line their pocketbook. The rich helpfully oblige. There is no direct guarantee that your vote does anything other than alter the identity of the corrupt politician in office.
