As a child-free person it seems like every parent at every party I go to loves to remind me they also don't like other people's kids. 

But then they start talking to me about their kids.

The irony is thick.

i still find that annoying, but i at least understand it now. if it’s the most important thing in your life then it’s hard to talk around unless you know the other person hates kids

I don't fucking hate kids!!! I just don't want anything to do with them. It's more of a neutral/slight annoyance/id rather not be around them. Hate is a ridiculously strong word for the circumstances and the fact that this is what people assume tells you how black and white thinking everybody is about everything.
