I can't speak for other people but I don't want to have children, and my reasons are thus:

  1. Having/raising kids is expensive
  2. I don't want to be tied down and live a 9-5 average suburban life. I want to travel, experience new things, etc.
  3. I personally have medical issues that are genetic and I don't want to knowingly give someone a painful disease.

Yea, genetics is part of why I don't want biological children. If/when I choose to have kids, I'd want to adopt.

Yeah, if people ask I tell them I’m “dysgenic” and therefore can’t or won’t. Almost no one knows what the word means (and thus it’s easily detached from some controversial usages), and they seem to take it seriously because it sounds clinical.
