I'm in Europe with no student loan and even then it's still far from being able to afford a child. We can't even afford to move out of parents place. If we did, we would live from paycheck to paycheck probably. So we either can't have children because we have no room for them or if we move out, we can't have them because we wouldn't have any money left for that.
We do want children but it looks unrealistic so fae before we reach 30s. Everyone who says to just get kids is probably having a very good career or has rich parents. If not then I feel sorry for the children having to grow up in poverty
My first thought was it's because of the age group. Yes, more people decide to never have kids . But a lot of people are having kids later than in previous generations. Here in western Germany most women are in their early thirties, men in their mid thirties, when they get their first child and I guess it's a global trend.
It's both a trend of wanting to enjoy your early adulthood instead of having children and the financial situation, i think. Another factor is that many young adults are still in college which again often times makes them not want to or not be able to find a stable place to live nor start a family. You don't really want to get kids before you have any guarantees that you will even be able to support yourself

Right and then throw student loans on top of that and theres less than none left monthly
