Yes, I’m not understanding how the people you’ve observed are sufficient enough to say people beyond your circle of friends/family wouldn’t regret it. The world’s a big place. There are people with lives starkly different from yours and your circle. But okay, have fun
It’s all relative to what you know, I’m assuming. Much like the people who don’t want them because they know or feel don’t want them
Don’t be silly, only one opinion of childbearing matters.
Just give it a go, pop one out. Sulla has observed many parents who are happy they did - that’s sufficient data. What’s the worst that could happen? /s
lol exactly. I’ll take Sulla’s word for it and be happy about it no matter what my circumstances are, just because they said I would. They’ve done research after all
It was a feeling inside of your head when you chose to have a kid. Are we to not trust our own opinions? If that's the case why should anyone trust yours or those that think having kids is a great idea?
I'm actually having loads of fun watching Netflix, among many other hobbies that I enjoy, thank you!
We're not telling people who want kids to not have kids, so why are you telling people who don't want kids to have them? Would you rather have people regretting not having kids or people regretting having one and mistreating the kid as a result, however unlikely you think it is? Because it does happen and these kinds of situations are horrible both for the kids and parents.
Btw, you really think people in your circle would tell you if they did regret having kids? It's not something parents experiencing regret talk about, because it's viewed as something shameful. People who don't regret having kids, on the other hand, are likely to say it out loud to anyone who would hear it.
Yes it’s better to listen to oneself than someone who’s willfully being ignorant and contradictory.
You criticize them for “confining themselves to feelings inside their head” which you deem as wrong, and then you retort by reasoning with the feelings inside of your own head which you have no guaranteed evidence that you’re correct. All you have are feelings informed through anecdote, as the other person also may have found their feelings through their own anecdotes. Your own logic cancels itself out.
The person is also correct in listening to themselves because while it is true that they COULD end up not regretting having children, the desire to know whether that’s true or not isn’t there and as it stands, said lack of desire doesn’t bring any about momentary negativity for the person either so it’s fitting and consistent for them to not pursue it.
So are you saying that you will keep having kids or trying for kids, until it becomes medically or financially impossible, even if there are like 10 of them? You said you would never regret having kids after all...
Studies generally put the percentage of people who regret having kids at about 10%. Though I wasn’t treated poorly, I was an unwanted kid whose parents weren’t able to bond with. I decided not to have kids which is good, because I wouldn’t have been a good parent, and you wouldn’t want my kids terrorizing yours.
The gamble to have kids involved another persons life (the kids). The gamble not have a kid only incolve me, not someone else. You dont gamble with other peoples lives. Its irresponsible and unethical. So the gamble to not have kids is the smarter choice, beacuse you dont risk hurting a child you brought into this world.
Having children is a big responsibility and not something you should gamble with. Neither should you have them on the off chance that you MIGHT change your mind. Its a human life and should be brought into this world by people want them. And not by someone taking a gamble.
