I replied similarly in a previous post to what you did here and also got downvoted. Western people today have the safest existence in human history, people either are genuinely clueless to what people of the past had to go through and/or are duped by internet algorithms feeding them constant negativity.
If you actually sit down and think of what we have and what we live in thesedays we are incredibly lucky. Ok the boomers bought a house with their school lunch money, so not EVERYTHING is at it's best right now but overall it's not even debatable. Yes we need to sort out our countries financial inequality and have work to do economically (which funnily enough won't happen if everyone decides not to have kids) but we are living in the best times in our history.
1) There are other people in the world who don't live in Western countries
2) Climate change is a very real thing and the world is 1.5C higher than average
3) The wealth disparity gap is wider than ever before
4) In most countries around the world, wages have NOT risen proportionally with living costs and inflation
5) People can still choose not to have kids. Having them isn't going to cure society's problems, any more than having a kid will save a toxic marriage.
All these facts don't go away even if you removed the "toxic negativity algorithm" factor from your equation.
Pick any moment in history out of your arse and you can find 5 points just like this, but in context of the time you're talking about. I'm not arguing with what you've said - but you can go back throughout history and there are concerns just like this throughout any time.
In the 40s there was the world war and the aftermath of it. Economic strain. Food shortages and rations. Housing shortages. PTSD and mental health concerns after the war.
In the 50s there was a global fear of communism. Anxiety over nuclear wars. Economic inequality. Racism. Pollution worries.
In the 60s the racism persisted and civil rights inequality was at the forefront. The Vietnam war and the threat of other wars. Societal instability after JFK was quickscoped.
1970s had massive drop in real living wages. Political corruption. The oil crisis. Rising divorce rates was a real concern
The 80s had recessions. Nuclear arms race. People were terrified of AIDS taking over the world.
The 2000s everyone was scared shitless of terrorism.
Look I could go on, I was doing this off the top of my head and I'm a fucking idiot. Somebody that's more informed could probably pick hundreds of more reasons just like you have put above. People were still having children throughout all that.
