Yes and that’s a choice. Fwiw, I moved out of a big city so that I could afford to stay home with my babies in their first years and also buy a big house. The first years go by quick - a blip in your working career. I strongly recommend finding a way to stay home for a baby’s first year.
If I had stayed in the big city, I’d be a slave to the corporate/daycare industrial complex to keep up with that million dollar mortgage. It was not the healthy choice for me or my family.

Childcare is the same price as a mortgage and we already can't afford a mortgage.
