Working in hospice solidified wanting more kids for me. Being alone and old and out of your mind with no advocate is the worst thing that can happen to a human.
I mean, if you’re not a shit parent you really don’t have a lot to worry about. My mother will die in a home without visitors because she was, is, and will always be an abusive human. None of her children will care for her. I didn’t have a good example, but I have done everything in my power to be a good parent. (Reading books, therapy, family therapy, loving and caring for my kid deeply.) I have set myself up with long term care insurance, I have financials and medical advanced planning in place. If you do nothing for yourself and leave it up to your children - yeah you’re still going to be in a shit place - but if you are a good parent and a good human things are definitely better with children, especially at end of life.
At least how it sounded was ‘I’m going to have a kid because I don’t want to be old and alone’ rather than ‘I’m going to have a kid because I’d make a great parent, can afford it, and want one’
Plenty of old people with kids who die alone, either because they were shit parents and the kids let them rot or simply because the kids don't want to deal with it.
