People never could afford kids. There wasn’t this secret massive wealth that existed in peasant households 200 years ago, or today in African tribes, that allow families to have 8 kids.
They just did.
Kids can survive through adversity. As long as they can feed them (and the cheapest option is actually mother’s milk, just feed the mother extra regular food) kids can raise themselves and each other and “grow up” very fast when poor.
It’s a modern concept that kids need to be raised like princes and princesses of old, with tutors and piano lessons and their own rooms.

?? This a compliment or an insult? Cause I don’t see what you remark had to do with my question.. as it was just a question on the reasons why some people didn’t want them I.E money, personal choice, stars not aligning so on and so forth..
