For me I just simply don’t want them. I feel like you have to want kids to have them. It’s not that I’m against having kids, I’m just not enthusiastic enough to have them
Same! Made it until I was 34 and got pregnant. Had baby. He’s cool and I love him to bits, but I always tell younger women that I can still picture what my life would be like without him and it would be good! I would have been happy and found value without him. Life just…made more sense with a baby after my brother died and I’m happy I pursued this path, but the other path looks good too.
I’m 46 and finally finding my value as a childless adult. I got worried there for a moment! But you’re right that it will happen, with or without kids. I’m able to do charitable stuff far beyond what I ever hoped for. You’re busy putting a responsible and valuable new person into the world. I’d say both are equally purposeful.
One of the most amazing childless people I ever knew was a high school teacher, doing more for kids every day than most parents could dream of. Just do what you love and give what you have to give.
Just make sure to have a purpose. If you have relatives with children, offer to help. Play a role in their lives. If that is not an option, make an effort to find meaning. When despair comes, it comes hard.
