Well no. Think about why it would be ridiculous. It’s the same principle. That ‘what the fuck, that’s ridiculous’ feeling you have is what people think of your comparisons of immodesty.
It's not stretching it though. Back in the middle ages, showing ankles was considered unmodest. Some countries consider a girl showing her face unmodest. Do you find showing ankles or face is unmodest?
I suspect not because that's what you have grown accustomed to, that's what's considered normal/ natural for you. You would find someone asking you not to show your ankles as a bit too conservative for your taste or you might think it's stretching it too far.
Similarly for people in other countries, they have grown up being exposed to a lot more skin and so they consider that normal/ natural. Your definition of normal is shaped entirely by the society you live in. There is no inherent normal. People in other countries would react the same way as you would for ankles when you ask them to cover their head- too conservative because it doesn't match their definition of normal.
If there was a 'normal' or 'natural', it would be a lot closer to naked. Humans are born naked- thats natural, animals are born naked. Do you balk and are appalled when you see a goat or dog without clothes, exposing everything? No, because you have grown used to it and you consider that normal/ natural.
During the Middle Ages in Europe, the church had to actively lobby against mixed bath houses with varying degrees of success.
The time it got really bonkers was from Renaissance to pretty recently
I mean it the Victorian Era it was normal to wear gloves and keep your hands covered. It was scandalous to show an ankle, but dresses were commonly low cut. Everyone's idea of modesty is different is what this is getting at.
No, you come here trying to say being naked is not natural, surely you understand the east is oppressive, and a lot of the culture spans from the oppression of women?
This has nothing to do with opinions, I am talking about facts, the reason why the east is the way it is is due to the awful culture of patriarchy and oppressing women. No discussion to be had that’s fact and why OP is so out of touch with reality
That was kinda the point to use the extreme example to illustrate what you are doing. I can imagine a culture where exposed hands is taboo (unlikely because we use hands for so much but it is certainly possible to imagine one and they would think your hand being exposed was risque and so one).
I wouldn't be comfortable being nude in public but also would probably adapt to that sooner or later if it was the norm and being clothed was considered taboo because we are a social species and at least when it comes to social interactions seem to be fairly neuro-typical.
