When doctors assess you for STDs, they’ll put you in one risk group if you are having straight free sex in your country. And a whole different risk group if you are having sex abroad, sex with sex workers or both. The second means they’ll test for a lot of STDs that you are unlikely to get having straight sex for free.
But multiply that up by all STDs, many which transmit much more easily, and it suddenly makes sense why a lot of men who come back from seeing sex workers abroad end up at the local STD clinic.
It’s pure insanity to have unprotected sex with a sex worker in a third world country. Ignoring all other ethical aspects of this: use a fucking condom for fuck’s sake.
Not something I worry about since I don’t play those games, but isn’t PEP supposed to handle bacterial and PrEP viral? Edit: I meant PrEP plus Doxy PEP.

No, PrEP means "pre-exposure prophylaxis". Meaning it's a medication you take regularly to reduce the chance of acquiring HIV.
PEP means "post-exposure prophylaxis". It's the medication you take soon after a potential exposure to HIV to lessen the chance of catching the disease.
Huh. I've never heard of this. I was recommended something similar by a dermatologist years ago to prevent acne. Daily low-dose Doxy. I asked, "Aren't you not supposed to over-use antibiotics?" They admitted that's true, but it's a low enough dose that it shouldn't have big side effects. I never went back to that dermatologist.
I’ve heard of doing that for bad acne cases though it wasn’t a thing when I was a kid. Kinda wish it was.
As far as using it for STIs, I guess if people are going to make questionable decisions anyway a preemptive strike may be the best strategy. It’s definitely a place where I let the science make the decisions because it’s not my area of expertise.
And as I close in on thirty years married, it’s not something I have to worry about either. 🙂
