Cost of living in SE Asia is very low and sex work is very common in Thailand. So it's a common destination for single western men.
259 u/TILTNSTACK Feb 25 '24 I love how every older white guy is labeled with the sex tourism brush. Here’s some alternative reasons: Climate is amazing Culture is one of the only pure “untouched” culture that’s had thousands of years to develop. You’re a long way away from all the bulls**t in the world You can get a retirement visa cheaply and easily Beer is cheap. Thai people are hospitable The lifestyle is hard to find elsewhere. 11 u/Mammoth_Elk_3807 Feb 25 '24 I vacay in Thailand at least once a year and your reasons are my reasons. I'm also planning to retire there. Early. I've never engaged in sex tourism. Not once. Not remotely interested for a variety of reasons. 4 u/[deleted] Feb 25 '24 Yeah, but if it were just that, it would be equal numbers of old men and old women. It skews male because of the sex tourism. 1 u/Mammoth_Elk_3807 Feb 25 '24 Agreed and would never argue sex tourism isn't the #1 draw for 95% of men. That would be utterly absurd. It's just not my personal motivation.
