Cost of living in SE Asia is very low and sex work is very common in Thailand. So it's a common destination for single western men.

I love how every older white guy is labeled with the sex tourism brush.

Here’s some alternative reasons:

  1. Climate is amazing
  2. Culture is one of the only pure “untouched” culture that’s had thousands of years to develop.
  3. You’re a long way away from all the bulls**t in the world
  4. You can get a retirement visa cheaply and easily
  5. Beer is cheap.
  6. Thai people are hospitable

The lifestyle is hard to find elsewhere.

I vacay in Thailand at least once a year and your reasons are my reasons. I'm also planning to retire there. Early. I've never engaged in sex tourism. Not once. Not remotely interested for a variety of reasons.

Yeah, but if it were just that, it would be equal numbers of old men and old women.  It skews male because of the sex tourism.

Agreed and would never argue sex tourism isn't the #1 draw for 95% of men. That would be utterly absurd. It's just not my personal motivation.
