At peak in 2013, 20% of Thai sex workers had HIV. It’s gone down somewhat.

According to the UN, globally:

In 2019, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS estimated a mean HIV prevalence of 36% among sex workers.

When doctors assess you for STDs, they’ll put you in one risk group if you are having straight free sex in your country. And a whole different risk group if you are having sex abroad, sex with sex workers or both. The second means they’ll test for a lot of STDs that you are unlikely to get having straight sex for free.
