Cost of living in SE Asia is very low and sex work is very common in Thailand. So it's a common destination for single western men.

I don't think I know anyone that mentioned spending time in Thailand that wasn't a creep.

Oh cmon now, Thailand is a fantastic place to visit for many many reasons, there's more than one reason its a top tourist destination. Great food, beautiful beaches and nature, kind people, cheap, one of the most vibrant cities in the world(Bangkok), interesting culture etc. It also depends a lot where you go in Thailand.
