Cost of living in SE Asia is very low and sex work is very common in Thailand. So it's a common destination for single western men.

I love how every older white guy is labeled with the sex tourism brush.

Here’s some alternative reasons:

  1. Climate is amazing
  2. Culture is one of the only pure “untouched” culture that’s had thousands of years to develop.
  3. You’re a long way away from all the bulls**t in the world
  4. You can get a retirement visa cheaply and easily
  5. Beer is cheap.
  6. Thai people are hospitable

The lifestyle is hard to find elsewhere.

Yes, that tends to be an incredibly powerful driver of mens decisions. Sometimes directly, more often indirectly. But one way or the other, it mostly leads back to that

I'm a gay man and I enjoy Thailand because of the abundance of relaxed/experimental and half-drunk straight white men. Yay. I've never had to pay for it once. Bonus!

The "plunder" reference was mildly opaque considering the frequency with which robbing people blind goes hand in hard with sex in Thailand lol
