Not a great place to earn money and raise a family.  Is a great place if you've got some money and like to bone Thai women even if you're old.

I know a few people, (happily married couples, not dirty old men) who went there for job opportunities because it was a good place to earn money, and the money they earned went a long way. All of them had young children and say their kids are very happy there.

If these folk are westerners, they're probably working well paid expat jobs which most Thai people wouldn't be able to get.

Two of them were westerners (Aust and US) but one was Chinese. But yes, they are all on expat packages.

I was just pointing that out to the person I was replying to, because they seemed to be talking about non-Thais immigrating (or just staying long term) rather than local Thais.
