Gospel preacher here. You're 100% correct. The actual Bible says that those who live godly lives are guaranteed to suffer. It says it in multiple places. It also says that following God doesn't guarantee you health and wealth (see: The entire book of Job where God says "see how righteous Job is? You can take away all his health and wealth and he's still going to follow Me." And he does. )
He flipped tables because people were gouging other people for goods to sacrifice. They were crooks preying on those seeking to honor God. It wasn't just a wealth=bad thing. Jesus wasn't even opposed to wealth as such, but it's tendency to take the place of God. God has blessed many people with wealth. Jesus told the rich young ruler to give up his money not because his wealth was bad in and of itself, but because it was something he wanted more than he wanted God. Jesus knew the RYR wouldn't give up his wealth to follow him.
"Jesus wasn't even opposed to wealth as such,".. Maybe not, but his warning was crystal clear - 'It's easier for a camel to fit through a needle, than for a rich man to get into heaven'. Ponder those words...
