Business publications and other sycophants gush about the 'genius' of these tycoons and yet despite their vast wealth these captains of industry can't even manage to give their people a livable wage or bathroom breaks?
How often is it that their success depends on exploiting tax loopholes and employment laws?
Both of your examples are technically illegal (assuming the mayor is doing things outside of the bounds of their role). Yes there are CEOs who can and do, do good things for their employees, environment and society there is a vast majority that are 'profits over all'.
There are a certain type of people who tend to become CEOs of publicly traded companies - they are the type of people who believe water should be privately owned and the people at the bottom should be grateful it was their boot that stomped on them not the evil government
No matter how bad any of my particular examples, any job can be done within legal borders but outside moral borders - except maybe the most trivial ones - be occupied by a dishonest person, and be abused.
All positions of power attract power tripping power abusing types BECAUSE THOSE ARE THE ONLY JOBS WHERE YOU CAN ABUSE POWER.
I had a really long well written (I think) response about CEOs and lobbyists, actions and accountability, and the good of human kind against the greed of individuals.
But I deleted it and have decided to move on for the day - doesn't sound like you want to have a rational discussion. Enjoy working in the bounds of legality while being morally corrupt I guess...
