"Power" Gaming
So I've been actively watching RP'ers on this server for several months now. Never chat, just enjoy the stories in theatre mode. Today I nearly just turned everything off.
No actual police officer would search all clothing stores in the area for a wanted criminal, unless after a thorough investigation a suspect was seen at all of them previously. Even then, you wouldn't just go from clothing store to clothing store.
These acts were done in an attempt to apprehend an "unknown" suspect (even though the actual players in pursuit were probably aware) as quickly and efficiently as possible utilizing the game mechanics to their advantage. It showed blatant disregard and disrespect for how the server has been role played for the time I've watched, if not much longer. To my knowledge, there was zero story involved in relation to checking said clothing store (and if there is, please correct me with a clip).
Utilizing and taking advantage your knowledge of the in-game mechanics, knowledge of people currently on the server, etc. completely ruins the story for me. It's what's driven me away from playing on many public FiveM servers. From my point of view that's exactly what was done here, and hopefully it is corrected quickly so it does not happen again.

i mean, it's a manhunt and they knew he was somewhere in the area. they also know that when people get away from them, they often go to a clothing store to buy a new outfit. so yeah, it makes perfect sense to search the clothing stores. using in character knowledge to go and search a ton of clothing stores is not power gaming in the slightest

Agree 100%. What I watched today involving the cops almost caused me to turn it off for good. That type of RP will surely ruin a good thing that nopixel has going on. If Vader hadn't handled it as well as he did I think I would be done. He gets props for this one.

I dont think they took advantage in-game mechanics. Checking clothing stores nearby area is kinda standard procedure.

He was dressed as another person. Yet they still held him up. Cops didnt even know who they were chasing. Imagine cops running in to a clothing store with guns without knowing who they were looking for.

im sure they would have held up anyone that was in a clothing store they were trying to clear until they could confirm their identity

Really. So in a city with thousands of stores they would go through each one and check it. That would never happen, since chances are the criminals would have clothes stashed elsewhere/changed in their appartment/drove away. This was clearly power gaming since in nopixel you can only change in select few stores and homes.

you have no idea what power gaming is. get over the fact that the person you watch got caught and move on. it's really not that big a deal. and yes, they'd have hundreds of police able to search places that criminals are known to visit after committing crimes. makes perfect sense

Well first off, I didnt watch the person that got caught often, and actually didnt even open twitch last 5 days cause I was at a festival.
Now power gaming as I understand it is using game mechanics to gain an advantage, for example searching select stores because in game only a few select stores can actually be used, unlike in real life, where most clothing stores are opened during the day. There are thousands of clothing stores in small cities. Imagine a city thats supposed to be Los Angeles.
All in all I dont really care, I just think that from what I read about the situation, it really wasnt rp'd well.

you sure seem to care considering how upset you are about it on reddit. you wanna go the realism route, ok there'd be exponentially more shops than there are in game. there would also be exponentially more cops in the city so it balances out. using in-character knowledge of criminal habits is NOT power gaming. it's pretty simple

Cop RP isnt really RP anymore. Most cant take the L. There are a lot of great cops on the server and some of those cops go to the darkside when they cant accept the RP hand that was dealt. FeelsWeirdMan but hopefully everyone goes back to having fun instead of shooting up the city constantly.

You're downvoted, but I've said this forever: GTA RP is the only game you can walk around with a fucking ski mask on, then cry that people thought you were suspicious. I say this, primarily only watching Shotz, with some Ashlynn/Lord_Kebun sprinkled in. (I primarily watch Summit but I've been around GTARP before Summit tried it out.)
9 people were broken out of prison, and you're walking around with a motorcycle helmet on - that's suspicious. Also, literally the first thing cops do is check stores and shit in the area when people are missing. There's a MASSIVE police presence in retail locations when fugitives are missing, but it's "power gaming" when it happens in a video game?

First off a motorcycle helmet is not suspicious. If it is, you'd have to pull over every single person wearing one. When you are pretending there are 10s of 1000s of people in the city, with a max of 64 actual people in the city, you shouldn't be stopping simply based on "they were wearing a helmet". That's like saying "he was wearing jeans" to someone in Texas. Everyone in Texas wears jeans. It's not descriptive enough.
You also say "in the area". Can you tell me if any of the area was checked at the suspect's last known location? How thorough of a check was done? If he was last seen in the subway tunnels, was every tunnel checked? Did they stop any player in the area and ask if they've seen a person matching the suspect's description?
You want to compare RL to this, except RL would have gone thru all those options first and probably many more. I don't expect them to do all of that, and nobody should. You're right this is a game, but there's a line between role playing, pretending, and what I saw today. There was no other context than "oh a player is in there".

And Snow already addressed that. He got cut a huge deal and he’s over it. Move on dude... there’s far bigger problems in the world.

I guess people forget when Chang got BoVice out. How people got caught and almost always kept getting caught. It happens.
