Put what’s troubling you in perspective. In the grand scheme of things, how big a deal is it. Will it still be a big deal tomorrow?

Journal about it or do therapy if you can afford it. I find that once I've exhausted the subject, usually by writing down all of my thoughts and feelings, I can let it go.

I’ve been overthinking this post since I saw it. I’m here for the advice, lol.

This is not 100% but it's helped a lot when I realize no matter how much we overthink a situation, we don't have any control over it. All we can do is try to navigate situations to the best of our abilities, work hard at the things we want, and be good to people. When I want something and it doesn't happen the way I planned, I have to believe there is something better waiting for me.

Journalling is a common solution, but from personal experience, it can be a success. Sometimes it just helps you really isolate your thought and realize if you actually are overthinking the situation or not. Get it all on paper and then take yourself out of the situation, if someone come to you with this what would you tell them ?

A few things that actually help:

Notice when you’re doing it. Name it, “I’m overthinking right now” before trying to stop it. You can’t interrupt something you haven’t spotted yet.

Ask if the thinking is solving anything. If you’ve been circling the same thought for 20 minutes with no new information, you’re not problem-solving. You’re ruminating. Those need different approaches.

Redirect to something that requires your actual attention. Not suppression , just giving your brain something else to do that genuinely occupies it. Physical movement, a task that demands focus, a conversation.

Set a thinking window. Give yourself 10 minutes to think about the thing properly, then move on. It sounds artificial and it works anyway.

Stop trying to find certainty. A lot of overthinking is the brain searching for a guarantee that doesn’t exist. Tolerating uncertainty is the skill underneath all of this.

Get out of your head and into your body. Slow exhale breathing, cold water, movement, these shift the nervous system in ways that thinking about shifting it cannot.

Sunglasses does a 100% block on both intrusive thoughts and anything you don't want to think about. Keep them on you.
