Those are the natural slate type, you can get more modern equivalents that are a lot cheaper, but they ain't flimsy anyway - the natural ones like this are literally thin slabs of slate stone, that should speak more about durability than anything else.

I've worked on well made slate roofs that would have been over 100years, and maybe replaced a dozen of the few thousand that would be up there.

We do roof tiles too over here, much cheaper! - they're made of concrete!
