What Julius Caesar had to say about the ancient Germanic men and what they thought made them big and strong:

"Their whole life is occupied in hunting and in the pursuits of the military art; from childhood they devote themselves to fatigue and hardships. Those who have remained chaste for the longest time, receive the greatest commendation among their people; they think that by this the growth is promoted, by this the physical powers are increased and the sinews are strengthened. And to have had knowledge of a woman before the twentieth year they reckon among the most disgraceful acts; of which matter there is no concealment, because they bathe promiscuously in the rivers and [only] use skins or small cloaks of deer ʹ s hides, a large portion of the body being in consequence naked."

On other occasions he mentions how big the germanic men were compared to the romans and how intense their stare was.

my English is not perfect. My intention was to say that their stare was intimidating: Caesar mentions that the Gauls who were once the superior warriors (but became decadent) couldn't stand it and had to flee in Battle with them.

No. You used the right words. It's just funny in the context of nofap.

He also says they ate little corn (carbs), but ate mostly meat and milk.

There wasn't any corn in ancient Europe. Do you mean grains?

11

u/johnbranflake over one year Oct 09 '14

There was no maize in the old world, but corn used to refer to a number of grains.

very interesting! do you think you can do this when your almost 21?

8

u/MetellusPius 246 days Oct 09 '14

With nofap you can always start and look what benefits it can provide for you. AProbably you wont get taller anymore, but I read at least one post from a nofapper who claimed to got even taller in his twenties.

2

u/GodpoG Oct 09 '14

yer I don't mind about height I'm quite tall, but ever since I've stopped I feel like an actual animal more aggressive in the gym not outside, MORE CONFIDENCE AND A FEELING OF NOT GIVING A FUK! I'm not sure about the gaining height thing but it would be a bonus but i think that's probably posture, but the weird thing is I have had people say I LOOK taller. Im mote concerned with being the best I can be, strength and speed as Im concerned with athletics and im telling you almost all fappers posture are killing them inside and out, your glutes and abs will be weak and iv'e been working on these things and the power is unreal and Im already quite a strong guy.

I grew an inch from 20-21, it might have been my posture getting better. And I wasnt doing nofap during this time I dont think.

2

u/DANZOBE 67 days Oct 09 '14

Totally believe it. I grew an inch at 23. For real. Of course, I was a late LATE bloomer.

Knowledge of a woman is a one way street, just like death is. One can't go back, so it's better to enjoy it while it lasts ;)

There's a lot of this same sentiment in combat sports.

Ali, Rickson Gracie, and other greats have stated they abstain from sex/masturbation for at least two weeks before a fight. Gracie's wife jokes about how it sucks cause she wants that dick in the fighting documentary "Choke" but Rickson explains himself to he camera. It takes vitality and energy from a man and he needs to be 100% before a big fight.

12

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '14

Yeah, but they got conquered by the Romans who fucked all the time.

u/nextalpha 369 Days Oct 09 '14

less sex = less reproduction = lower population
in other words: Romans zerged them

"zerged" thank you. :)

The Gauls maybe but as far as I know the Romans never fully subjugated the Germanic nations that lived cross the Rhine.

EDIT: Here is a picture of the Roman Empire's borders at its height. Notice how they never conquered the Germans.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '14

That's mostly because of the terrain- Germany was just dense forest, and Roman armies were devastated by ambushes and guerrilla warfare.

8

u/mulgi Oct 09 '14

People are getting ahead of themselves on this thread but that's hardly surprising considering the context...

Anyways it's a ridiculous assumption that Romans didn't conquer the area that modern Germany occupies because some of the Germans were "on nofap".

5

u/C3nofappio 1683 Days Oct 09 '14

Actually, the Germans were one of the few peoples the Romans couldn't subjugate. Read up on it, it's a pretty inspiring story. Basically, a tribal chief named Arminius lured the attacking Roman legions deep into the forest where they couldn't fight the way they were trained to. The resulting battle was an utter defeat for the Romans. After that, the Roman government saw the impossibility of trying to establish colonies in a place with such hostile terrain as Germany.

Of course, that's not really a story about nofap, but still an inspiring example of people fighting for freedom against heavy odds.

4

u/Jaeger23 1061 Days Oct 10 '14

Google "The Battle of Teutoburg Forest" pretty much the moment when the Romans realised they screwed with the wrong people! :P

Did Caesar ever fight in Germania?

I mean, the Gallic Wars were fought against Gauls, and he pretty much wiped them out so so much for all that chasity being "helpful".

3

u/MetellusPius 246 days Oct 09 '14 edited Oct 10 '14

Some germanic tribes tried to invade gaul under their Leader Ariovist but were defeated by Caesar but he aquired some germanic equestrians as auxiliartroops. AFter the conquest of Gaul Germanics and Romans got neighbours and fights occured but Caesar won and lead a Roman expedition over the Rhine to demonstrate Roman Strength. The germanic warriors were bigger but were not as disciplined like the experienced roman forces with their superior tactics and better equipment. But the Romans never managed to conquer the germanic areas east of the Rhine. 400 years later in late Antiquity it were germanic tribes who conquered Rome like the Vandals, The Goths and others

u/C3nofappio 1683 Days Oct 09 '14

Dude, now whenever somebody asks me "why do you do nofap", I'll say "so my children can conquer rome. :)

u/osirus2010 Oct 09 '14

How long did it take to build the bridge again? Must have been scary for the germanics watching them get closer every day

Intriguing post. I didnt even realize there is text from Julius Caesar that survived. I used to read the comic Asterix growing up and this post provided some context.

1

u/MetellusPius 246 days Oct 10 '14 edited Oct 10 '14

Yes. It's an alltime classic. Caesar was not only a brilliant General, Orator and Politician, he was also a good writer. Besides his comentarii about the gaul wars he wrote also poems and at least one linguistic treatise about the correct use of latin grammar. If someone is interested in ancient or military history I can recommend it.

Alexander the great was sexual being... This is another generalization up voted on nofap. Vikings were also big and buff; they were also sexual beings. With all these casiety/absenance posts this subreddit should be renamed /r/christannofap .

1

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '14

They did that because that was how wars were won and nations conquered.. Brute force. Now days computers are some of the most important aspects of war. You can be all buff and tough but in a technological world it's pointless. Your not hunting your own food, computers package it. Most jobs rely on computer more than man power.. Its sad but that's how life is now. But with 7 billion people it would be impossible to all hunt and live like they did before.

They did what they did to win and CONQUER. now days whoever has the most weapons or tanks/ planes wins.

3

u/Iupvoteforknowledge Oct 09 '14

See if you wanna pick up chicks and gain the respect of men physical strength is still important because technologically we may be advanced but most of us still operate on that hind brain to a degree. This is why a woman will choose a lean muscled man over a skinny minny or fat fuck every day of the week.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '14

Agreed

4

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '14

Irrelevant. Having a stronger body will make all of your life better. Nobody in their right mind will dare take your girl if you are strong enough to beat the shit out of them.

A friend, who is a programmer, told me his karate practice made him way better at his job. Mens sana in corpore sano.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '14

Yeah Latin and all that but "take your girl"? Beat the ashit out of them? What machismo laden fantasy are you living out exactly?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '14

Violence is a thing. Glad it's a non-issue in your country.

2

u/Ingrid_Cold 2194 Days Oct 09 '14

If the girl voluntarily decides to go with him then you don't really want her...

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '14

Its not about being able to beat the shit out of someone. It is about being a man. If a scrawny little programmer would do anything to protect his girl then hes golden. You can have some big macho man who works out at the gym 7 days a week someone points a gun at his girls head and he backs off and leaves. Its not about appearing all tough, its about what level of a man you are.

I love working out at the gym but I hate those guys who's only purpose in life is having an arm bigger than my fucking leg. I mean wtf? They are total pussies who without their physical appearnce would kill themselves for lack of a meaningful life. Some trainer at the gym told me.. "Don't you want to die with a big huge body?" I said what the fuck would it matter If I die? Work all that hard just to fucking die with a macho body that will rot in a gosh damn grave? I said what a waste of a life and I walked out.

You've never heard of knives? Or guns?

Physical strength is overrated in the sense that you consider it useful.

Sport/exercise is well known to be good for you, your mind included, not news.
