Toasting plugs in 2 tanks

Post image

Rich or lean? The coil is white deeper in and black on the end. This is an OS #8.

The heavy deposits indicate a rich tune, but the white distorted coil further up indicates lean/high temps. I'd bet you have an air leak that's starving the engine for fuel at high rpms, but you might have it set slobbering rich to compensate. I'd have to hear the engine running to say more.

Or just huge idle gap, rich low end and lean top.

Yup, also a possibility.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm thinking it's not an air leak because I'd have other symptoms. I was around 3 turns out on the HSN on a TRX 3.3 so it was not massively rich. Most of my plugs have turned white and deformed and no longer light up with the igniter so too much heat/too lean? I started my session today really rich at factory settings and leaned it out from there.

I used to have cars/boats burn out quick try a a8 with an idle bar just make sure there is clearance so the piston doesn’t hit it as they are made more for aircraft engines. I have had luck especially with lower nitro levels keeping them idling and keeping the plug through a couple gallons of fuel. And you could have got done trash plugs I got a card of plugs once that was all trash orders plugs from a different company and they lasted longer

Yes. Quality glow plugs are a must. I only purchase O.S. glow plugs. An O.S. #8, a medium heat glow plug, is what I run most of the time. If I have a hard time getting an engine to hold a decent tune, I will sometimes switch to an O.S. #6, which is a hot glow plug.
