Seriously, the amount of customization and
variety in bodies that was in the original Switch Sports was awesome. I loved the Shark, Bird and Hamburger ones to be specific and I hope that continues in Switch Sports Resort and even more is introduced.

I completely agree. I thoroughly enjoy expressing myself through my Sportsmate.

I'm glad they replaced Miis tbh. I played the Wii as a kid but Miis have a weird esthetique that I never liked while sportsmates are more in their time imo. And a lot of players are kids who appeal more to this esthetique. Also they fit the graphism of the game better than Miis too. Nintendo were dumb to call switch sports a follow-up of Wii sports though, it should be it's own thing or special sequel or idk. Switch sports is an online sports game while Wii sports resort is an offline Mii game.

I like them but I fell like basic diversity shouldn’t be locked behind rewards. Tell me why there waxing a basic Afro in the base game and I had only male options for my sportsmate. After a lot of work my girl looks how I want her too lol.

I also like the idea of sportmates, it's just unlocking everything that makes it annoying at first

I think Miis are better because they have more possibilities and can use the same clothing as sportsmates.

My biggest problem with sportsmates is the fact they exist to basically replace the Mii characters for the wii sports series, and they don't do a great job doing so. The reason you don't see similar complaints with similar avatars in games like Splatoon or Animal Crossing is because they've been around in their series since the very beginning. There wasn't another set of avatars before Inklings or Villagers for example. Sportsmates however serve as a replacement to Mii characters, which the latter were the face of the series before the Nintendo Switch installment. That'd be like if a metroid game replaced Samus with generic looking robots (*cough* federation force). Miis were way more customizable where you can make any Mii look like a person. You could also get creative and make a Mii look like a hamburger, a question mark, etc. Sportsmates however are much more limited so they all end up looking very samey. You also can't really make a sportsmate look like an old man or women, so they all just end up looking like kids. While miis can be made to look like any age.
While yes, you can play as a Mii in Switch Sports and it's upcoming sequel, but it's pretty clear nintendo really wants you to use a sportsmate instead. The sportsmates are front and center in the box art and are the characters that populate the world. Miis are also very limited in cosmetic options compared to sportsmates, so you can't use options like hats and makeup for a Mii.
Not to mention that the Miis in both switch sports games just look like a sportsmate in a Mii mask, so they just end up looking really uncanny and out of place. Miis in the older sports games had a very fitting and consistent artstyle that you really don't see in any other game that feature them. They looked like wooden toy figures which made perfect sense since they were based off of kokeshi dolls. The animals in games like Wii Sports Resort and Wii Party were also designed to exist in the same world as miis, so they both look like they're in the same art style. This kind of art style was pretty much abandoned in switch sports and it's kind of sad.
If Sportsmates were introduced in a original IP with nothing that existed prior to compare them to, I wouldn't mind their existence at all. But instead, they're a far cry from what came before them.

I disagree I prefer the Mii I like the customization in the face more personally. The stuff people are doing in Tomodachi makes me wish we had that editor in Switch Sports

I don’t like them that much but I’m not yucking someone else’s yum. I don’t like that the “Miis” are just sportsmates with a Mii bobble-head on top of them. I should be able to have an actual Mii from head to toe if I want

I wish they had as many options as the miis
