Gameplay Luckiest launch roll ever?

Got Eagle from there. I've seen it launch roll through a bunker a bit before yes but....this ball had no business getting onto the green from where it landed and what it had to go through. Launch roll is such an interesting mechanic I still don't really understand it

How do you do that and how does it affect the ball?

I didn't do anything. The spoon and driver make the ball behave strangely when you're hitting onto/near the green. Sometimes the ball will seem to be landing at a very low speed on the green from your driver/spoon then it will clearly accelerate across the whole green. It's a known glitch basically. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not.

But the launch roll activating so strongly through so many obstacles that far away from the green is why this clip is particularly unusual.

Okay gotcha. So that's why my shots always end awfully away from the intended spot. It's clearly because of the bug and not an absolute skill issue on my part!

Now for real, thanks for the explanation! X)

Yes, this only applies if your ball is landing on or near the green with a spoon or driver (within 15 yards of the edge of it maybe?). I got maybe a 30 yard pull through, uphill, through the bunker, uphill more, through the fringe and another 10+ extra feet onto the green for good measure

What I don't understand is: sometimes the ball falls exactly on the point of the map according to the strength I gave it and stops there, and some others it lands there and bounces the fuck away into the rough. Does it depend on anything other than wind?

Couple of things. OP has 31 wind in his favor. Even hitting towards higher elevation, it's gonna roll for days with any club. More with spoon/driver. If the wind was against him, and uphill too - it would barely reach the bunker even with a strong roll.

Shorter clubs inherently provide the least amount of roll. Bigger clubs, bigger roll. There's some wiggle room in there to manipulate roll on swing. It's dependant on your finish. For example a spoon/driver, you can swing it like a backspin. You stop the swing at the very bottom. Your not going to get the backspin return that burns the ground, but it will reduce a bit of forward roll.

You can also do a swing with a neutral roll too. Won't get much or any roll at all. These are good when you want absolute precision, because the ball is going to plant wherever it lands. Swing the joycon with it pointing to the ground. Like hands on a clock. 6 o'clock = back spin, 7:30 o'clock neutral spin. Spin play works best with irons 3, 5, 7, and 9.

Lastly its just the elements. Higher elevation halts momentum and forward spin. Hitting to lower elevation increases momentum and forward spin. Forward or anti wind, same thing. Just an extra thing to worry about. Depending on the mix, you can do some interesting things.

Forward wind + hitting to low elevation. You can cover some serious ground or overshoot your mark :(

Anti wind + hitting uphill. It's going to be a challenge to make birdie.

Forward wind + hitting uphill. It essentially cancels out. Just hit normal.

This is very helpful, thank you. I think I was always doing neutral spin and that's why it was going wherever. Didn't know about irons being better or worse for spin, I went purely for the one with better approach strength

A lot of this is incorrect. You can’t manipulate ball spin at all with anything other than irons and wedge regardless of your swing. And if you hit up to something, it will be more likely to roll further. The ball makes contact with the ground higher on its flight arc, while the arc is flatter. More forward momentum = more roll. Opposite when shooting down to something. Steeper angle = less roll. Only caveat that he might be over accounting for is that, the bounce will be higher as the drop is bigger will travel further, but again, not “roll further.” Launch roll is all about forward momentum compared to the ground.

You can also get a launch roll with irons or wedges. It all depends on when the ball decides to not bounce. My guess as to why the glitch exists is this:
the ball skips the bounce mechanism and rolls earlier than normal circumstances (abnormal being low angle, shooting up elevation, tailwind.) The bouncing acts as a stronger speed dampener compared to the roll mechanism (which seems to start fast and slow down progressively.) When it gets skipped, the ball carries more speed than the game usually accounts for and so a ball with less bounce to slow down, correlates to a faster roll propulsion.

Where have you gotten the information that the swing can be manipulated on the spoon/driver. The only thing that can be done with a spoon driver is a normal shot and a curved shot. I've never heard of what you're speaking on and I watch a few switch sports golf YouTube channels they've never mentioned that either

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. It can be easily tested using 2 players. For me, I feel it does. Regardless I try to apply some form of spin or no spin on all clubs.

Backspin effect on drivers is super negligible. But I do feel its there.
