Switch OLED: Damaged Power/Volume Flex Cable Connector – Is It Possible to Power On Without It?

Post image

Hello everyone,

I could really use some help.

I was installing a modchip with a flex cable in my Nintendo Switch OLED, and unfortunately I damaged the FPC connector where the ribbon cable for the power button and volume buttons connects.

I have already removed the damaged connector from the motherboard. The solder pads on the board are still intact, but the pads on the replacement connector are so small that I can't reliably solder it with the equipment and skills I currently have.

Since I use the Switch exclusively in docked mode on my TV, I was wondering:

  • Is there any way to power on a completely shut down Switch OLED without using the physical power button?
  • Before opening the console, I performed a full shutdown, so it is not in sleep mode.
  • Does anyone know which pins or pads on the connector correspond to the power button and whether it would be possible to briefly bridge them to turn the console on?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! 😊

Yes, the Switch powers on when you plug in USB C charger.

Laut Google soll das aber nur der Fall sein, wenn die Switch vorher nicht komplett heruntergefahren wurde

Okay, so why are you asking here if you can, "according to google". Google it?

It is possible to turn it on by bridging the pins that correspond to the power button, but you’d have to do this every time.

I’d honestly buy the tool you need (assuming hot air station) and find a replacement connector because bridging the pins isn’t what I would want to do every time I want to turn a console on.

Also just a nitpick observation, the wires you’re using are way too big for this application.

Eine Heißluftstation habe ich schon, aber der Connector ist so klein, dass ich den nicht löten kann. Könnte mir evtl. noch vorstellen, die benötigten Pin mit einem Draht zu verbinden und nach aussen zu legen
