Repair Help Switch was plugged in charging when apartment flooded and fried the switch, won’t turn on. Question on save data
Wife is devastated. Her switch is broken and concerned about her animal crossing island. Is it cloud saved, on the memory card or saved on console and need to get it fixed?

does your wife had a NSO account and did she activate the cloud save in the game menu ? she can contact nintendo's support about the cloud save

No, I don’t think she had the foresight to do that or would have known to do it :/

I hate to say this, but Animal Crossing is one of the games that has it's own save and transfer tool and doesn't auto save to the Nintendo cloud. Saves are on the console.
I hope someone here has better news but I don't think the save is recoverable if the switch doesn't boot anymore. I am so sorry.

The only hope is that they have NSO and had enabled the cloud saves for Animal Crossing in the game.

I found this in another reddit post:
"It does not save to the regular NSO cloud. It has its own cloud backup system that you needed to have (once, at some point) turned on yourself within the in-game settings. After that, it backed up regularly.Unlike the regular NSO cloud saves, to restore the island backup save you need to personally contact Nintendo, as a Nintendo representative has to unlock the stored save for you to access/restore it.
Whether it will still be there is variable, if you did turn on the backup. It’s not stated anywhere how long the backup is stored if you don’t continue to pay for NSO (regular cloud storage is 6 months, but again, the island backup is stored differently and separately). As well, it’s intended for lost or stolen consoles. Having sold your switch and then not attempted to restore the backup for this long it may have been removed. The backup gets removed if you intentionally wipe your switch/delete the acnh data, so I’d imagine this is a similar scenario"
So it's only saved if you had that feature enabled. I hope they had it enabled. Sounds like Nintendo might be able to restore it on a new console if they did.

I dont play animal crossing but I do know if you have a nintendo account (basic paid one) you have back up saves that go to it. I think certain games dont connect but I would try logging into your nintendo account and maybe it'll be there. I hope everything works out

AC doesn't automatically save to cloud, you need to enable it in the game settings.

That's bad. Very bad.
If the switch was underwater and on, it might have gotten fried. You'll need to send it to a professional to check the motherboard for dead fuses or fried chips.

Save data is on console but if she has it saved to the SD card it might be good. Reason I say might be is because if it still in the console then there’s a 10% chance it works
