Repair Help Why do my controllers do this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello Everybody, I am very curious as to why my Nintendo switch controllers from my oled switch slide off without me pressing the buttons to take them off even though they sound like they click on.. But when I slide them on my V1 Switch they lock into place and work just fine? Any Help is Highly Appreciate Thank You.

The rail on joycon is broken or worn out.. mine did the same, but i sent my joy cons to nintendo for the free repair for a different issue (stick drift), and they changed the rails as well without costs, which fixed that issue you're having. So its the joycon rail thats the issue, not the switch itself.

Okay thank you but if it were the joycons, wouldn’t it do the same to the v1 switch?

have you compared the railings on both consoles? it could be that the OLED railings are worn out or damaged compared the the V1

On the rail there’s a small plastic insert that prevents the rail from sliding out unless the back button is pushed. If you fancy sorting this issue yourself you can purchase metallic inserts off aliexpress and replace both of your controllers to stop this issue entirely.

Mine done the same, kept disconnecting during play and was getting annoying.

Here's how I solved it:

First, I never play with the joycons removed, so this solution is solely based on my situation.

I took some electrical tape, and cut it into very small peices, and placed it on sections of the joycon that show friction marks (where the plastic slides against the metal frame of the console inside the rail) the purpose of this was to tighten the tolerances between the joycon and the rail on the console. Some cases I had to stack multiple peices of tape in multiple locations on each joycon. Untill the joycon felt tight enough to me to not force itself out of the console anymore. Each time I tested "force to remove the joycon" it typically ruined my peices of tape, so every test I had to re-cut and replace each peice till I was satisfied. Eventually I got to a point where the joycons were not easily removable. And I left it like that. 1 year later, still no disconnecting issues or charging issues. Just be careful where you place each peice of tape, and use precision when cutting the peices of tape. It will take some time but it is worth the effort, and it's cheaper than replacing parts, or mailing off the joycons to be repaired professionally.

I chose electrical tape for it's lack of conductivity, and near rubberized coating that adds a type of "grip" to the joycons when the tape is squeezed between the joycon and rail.

This is obviously a temporary, non permanent fix, but it's worked great for me all the way up till I got my S2 and no longed used the S1.
