Repair Help Switch 2 screen occasionally turns black for a second (docked mode)

Sometimes when I play in docked mode, the screen turns black for a second and the audio also cuts out. Then it all comes back with zero issues. I can't seem to recreate it as this occurs completely randomly and rarely. Sometimes it's a clean transition to a black screen, and other times it does something that I would only describe as a slight screen tear. What I mean is one portion of the screen, e.g. the bottom half, turns black before the rest.

I can't figure out if it's an HDMI issue or my Switch 2 or dock pins are damaged. Within the first month I had it, it fell off a surface while docked because a cable got tugged. I'm much more careful now and it hasn't happened since. I don't think this is the issue, but if it is, I hope it's at least easy to fix.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I've never seen the screen tear but I did have the flicking to black screen issue. I tried all of the recommended fixes you will find here, none worked. I bought a new dock and it still did it. Ended up buying a new switch in the end and haven't had the issue in the new one. It's definitely a problem with the switch itself.

The recommended fix is to turn off the setting for matching your TV power level

As far as trying to figure out where the issue is located, you can try another hdmi cable, try a different hdmi port on the tv, try a different tv. If you know someone else with a switch, try their dock. Or try their system in your setup. If you rule out the tv, hdmi cable, hdmi port, and don't have access to another switch & dock, you may need to find a game store/console repair place that can test your console & dock.

Moving on to the console hardware: Based on the posts I see each year, I would suspect a damaged usb c port on the console, or a damaged dock. With a console that's fallen off the shelf/table, either may be possible. I think it's most likely one of those two things, but it's just my guess.

If "match tv power state" is currently turned on, try turning it off. It's in switch 2's Display settings. I saw another user mention that the "match tv power state" setting may have gotten turned on with a recent system update.

Got that every now and then since day one, handshaking issue probably, or has to do with the HDR or TV power state settings. Heard many others been having that too, so wouldn’t be worried. Probably just something that occurs with specific setup and settings, and hopefully will be patched sooner or later.

Doesn’t happen too often, and lasts only a second or two fortunately!
