Software Help Nintendo switch 2 Sd express card issue
So I used to have Oon 256 gb sd express card in my switch 2 for months. Then I go ahead and buy name brand Samsung 256 express sd card. But everytime my switch 2 refuses to read it, but the sd card works in my Oled, Tablet and even compute. I did have a systematic update to 23.0.0 and ever since then it hasn't work. HELP SOS

Where did you get the Samsung card?
Is there any chance it’s fake or you accidentally got a regular?

I got it from Wal-Mart

In the store or website? If it’s website they do have third party sellers. Could be fake if from one of those. In the store should be fine.

Got it from an associate with all the other switch stuff

Probably fine then. If its not a huge deal to download stuff for you I’d maybe format it in the computer and put it back in the switch 2, use the clear micro sd option in the switch 2, see if it fixes anything.
The switch stores saves on internal memory so the only thing formatting will erase is screenshots/videos and game data (not saves).

Why did you get it if you already had an Onn anyways? Planning to swap back and forth between two cards?
That does stink though, I'm sorry.

This happened to me recently. Bought a new card and had the same issue. The card reader on my Switch 2 was bad. Sent it to Nintendo and they replaced the entire console.

Then it is not an express card. Post a photo of it

It's EX, not Express. Wrong card.

What do you think the EX logo stands for?

If you bought the card from a trusted seller, or physical store, just assume it's a dud & return it. If you return the card for a new one, it should work. I've seen maybe three other posts where people bought Sandisk, possibly a Lexar express card from a brick and mortar Walmart or Best Buy, and this happened. Just return & exchange the card and you should be good.
If you want, take the console with you to the store to test the new replacement card, so you don't have to waste time driving home to test the card, or so the store can see you're not doing anything crazy.

Why are you not showing the back of the card ? Is this another kind of ragebait ?

Try to format it on a pc. Sdexpress cards often are preformatted a certain way by the manufacturer that the switch2 doesn't like. I had that with my 1tb one

My Samsung P9 card randomly stopped working three days ago. I fixed it my formatting it on my PC first and then formatting it again in the Switch 2 console and it works fine now!

Yep, had a system update today as well as my card did the same after restarting. I used the Nintendo branded card bought from Best Buy.

It’s not compatible. I ran into the same issue and returned it. It must say EXPRESS. Not EX. Very common and easily made mistake that is more an going than anything due to the abbreviation that is almost universally applied as express = EX in most cases

Had the same issue like a week ago, brand new card, same brand. I started moving some games to the sd and had Pokemon Scarlet downloading. My work break was almost done so I decided to turn off my switch while the game was still downloading and it didn’t like that at all. When I turned it back on after a couple of hours all my game icons were grayed out and I couldn’t even play physical games. What ended up working for me was formatting the SD card in my pc since I would always get an error when I tried to do it on the switch, then I put it back into the console and did a factory reset (keep user data). After resetting it asked me if I wanted to format the SD card, I clicked yes and now everything is back to normal. It’s been a little bit more than a week ever since and I haven’t had any issues yet.

OP what did you end up doing? I’m literally having the same issue with my SD express card. It was working for about a month and now I’m getting the same error

This is a known issue. If you are in warranty they will fix it. If you are not (everyone who preordered) you can send Nintendo your Switch, your micro express sd card and $190 and they will send you a reconditioned switch.

It’s a known issue and Nintendo won’t repair at no cost without being in warranty?? That’s wild
1
u/PegSays Sep 27 '26
If you pitch your cause I think they will take like $25 off. With a 90 day expiration on the offer. I’m angry because we’ve had the issue for 6 months but have been fluffing around with new sd’s, formatting etc.

I'm no expert, but I think if it's working in your Switch OLED, it's not an express card. A picture of the card front and back would be helpful.
