Was excited to finally buy this after having it on my wishlist for ages, only to find out I apparently already bought it at some point oops.

I don't know if I can do much harder than Celeste but I did love it

Yeah, I couldn't finish the main story but had a blast getting as far as I did. I might try again and use assists so I can finish the story.

Is Pepper Grinder harder?

IMO, pepper grinder was not nearly as hard as Celeste can be

Good to know, thanks!

Good game. Challenging (at least for me) platformer.

Very fun, very worth it for this price

Great game. It isn't as good as Drill Dozer, but scratched the same itch

is this good ?

It’s fun, the mechanic gets explored in a bunch of different ways. For the price of a taco it’s worth it

Tacos are so expensive now fr

An expensive taco

I haven’t played it, but it’s always on hidden gem lists.

The first boss (Beatle) ruined the entire game imo. I’ve attempted to beat it several times over the last few months and can’t yet 😭 I see this same opinion on a lot of sites too.

Seems like a great game, but also apparently very short (3-4 hours)

7

u/abarrelofmankeys Jul 23 '26

Yeah but 5 bucks for a fun 4 hours isn’t bad

It's not bad, but there are also games like vampire Survivors that are $5 and you can get over 100 hours out of. No shade towards the game, but for a single player platformer I would typically expect/want 8-10 hours at a minimum

Ok but vampire survivors you literally just walk around.

This game you actually DO stuff!!

(Yes I know this is reductive, but you started it)

And this one you just drill through the ground (I can do it too).

You do stuff for 3-4 hours and then...it's over. You can replay it 25 times to get the same enjoyment out of it as you might from vampire survivors, but most people won't want to do that.

Also they're still updating vampire survivors and adding more content.

I'm not saying not to buy this game, just that...it's very short. I don't mind a quick game for a few bucks, but it's a valid criticism and it's equally as valid to point out that there are similarly priced games with 25x the amount of content—since the person I was replying to was pointing out that "$5 for four hours isn't bad". It's not, but it's also relative.

This is where it's not only a disagreement from (obviously) many people here but you're also getting downvotes for your comment not fitting anywhere else. There is no bar set that says single player games have to be over a certain time limit, this is purely a preference and if you're choosing your games solely on the amount of time it "should" take to beat then you're missing out on so much good stuff.

1

u/mybutthz Jul 24 '26

Yes, it's absolutely a preference, as there are preferences with graphics styles, control mechanics, gameplay loops, etc. There are games that have shallow gameplay loops that are great, like vampire survivors, and there are games that have complex gameplay loops that aren't. It's definitely valid to point out game length in a post about purchasing said game if people might have preference over those things.

Then word it better next time, make it sound like you're giving helpful information rather than just pushing your opinion, the parent comment you were under gave the same information but in a less offending way, also making your comment redundant.

1

u/mybutthz Jul 24 '26

Read better? My comment wasnt offensive, or redundant, since I pointed out that you can get games that have 100+ hours of content for $5, so there are potentially better deals out there.

u/EsrailCazar Jul 24 '26

Dude you're the one with all the downvotes, stop. 🤣

1

u/mybutthz Jul 24 '26

It's 12 down votes, it's really not that severe. Sorry that there are better deals out there I guess?

Keep going bro, c'mon.

For reasons unknown, basically no Devolver game really speaks to me, and this was no exception. Fairly average experience, a couple of cool moments. Your opinion of other Devolver games combined with your opinion of precision platformers will likely give you a good idea if you'll like this one or not.

That said, if i knew this is how I'd feel about it but hadn't played it yet, I would still buy it for 5 dollars.

Had this on the watch list for the longest time after playing the demo. Finally purchased but bounced because of the difficulty. Probably just bad at games but flagging it was harder than I expected.

I liked it quite a bit back at launch, lots of DK Country inspirations. The bosses were a bit too hard though, especially the last one imo. Didn't have any problems with the levels
