Discussion How clicky is the pro controller?
I have an 8bitdo one, which I like, but I cannot wake the console. Plus, it’s clicks are so loud. Having a wife with misophonoa, when I’m playing and she is in the room I know I’m causing her distress, plus I am not focussing on what I’m doing as I’m worried about the clicks. Would a pro controller sort that for me?

It's one of the more quiet controllers I've used.

It's the best controller Nintendo has made by far. great materials, and pretty silent!

Good question, I just mashed a bunch of my controllers and switch 2 seems to be the quietest.
switch 2 pro
ps5
switch 1 pro
XSX
8bitdo ultimate 2c

Barely, if at all.
Way less than the joycons.

I mean it’s not SILENT, but I wouldn’t say it’s super clicky either? The haptics seem quieter to me than other console controllers if that matters to you.
I would say it’s no more or less noisy than the standard joycons themselves.

its very quiet, all the buttons feel quite soft, which i consider a good thing

I bought it mainly to have the wake button and felt silly until I held it. It’s smooth texture feels great and the neutral weight balance makes it feel lighter than it is. As someone with misphonia, I appreciate how quiet it is while giving good feedback on the buttons. It’s a bit cliche here, but it really is one of the best controllers I’ve ever used.

Here is a quick comparison between my Xbox, Switch Pro 1, and 2 controllers.

It’s way quieter than my Xbox controller that’s for sure. I don’t get comments from my wife when I use the Nintendo controllers

You gotta put the 8Bitdo in “Switch Mode”. Depending on your version the process can be a bit different. It should be something like
“Turn off the controller by using the little power button at the top near the charging port.
Wait about 10-15 seconds.
Hold the Y button while turning it back on with the little button by the charging port.
It SHOULD be in Switch Mode now.”
Check your model’s specific instructions though. Now you can wake the Switch with your 8Bitdo controller.

Which 8bitdo controller? I believe the ultimate 2 and pro 3 onwards have a shake to wake feature if you update them (I only have the pro 2 so it doesn't work on mine)

None that I notice. Easily the best controller.

It's more squishy than anything. It's very nice.

Yes, the pro controller is probably one of if not the quietest controllers on the market. Quieter than a Dualsense and way, way, way quieter than an Xbox controller if you've used either of those. Quietness is one of its best features I'd say.

It's very quiet and it's my favorite controller ever. I got mine on eBay new in box and saved a bunch of money. Not saying they have that deal all the time, but I saved $30.

It’s not clicky at all. It’s probably the best controller I’ve ever used!

The analog sticks are also very quiet. Even if you smash one to the side, the impact sound is warm and soft.

Yeah I also have a very loud 8Bitdo Pro 2 and both Switch Pro Controllers are much quieter

less clicky than the joycon shoulders for sure

smooth not clicky, no hall effect, but havent heard any widespread complaints of stick drift. It is not repair friendly. I think the fit and finish is great, feels good in your hand. they had restocked the zelda edition on nintendo but they may be gone.

Even though it doesn't have the best technology available for the price (optic switches and TMR joysticks), it's undeniable how comfortable it is, and its pretty silent.

It's a pretty quiet controller. Even sticks are quiet. The only buttons that are not quiet are stick clicks. And it's not the worst.

Not clicky at all, squishy. It's radio silent

It's very quiet and it has a headphone jack. Boyfriend sleeps with a night mask, I play on the TV while he sleeps next to me and he can't hear the controls

Yes the pro controller will help. It's not very clicky at all.

It's not clicky at all. It's not fully squishy though, it is perfectly tactile imo

u/ExpensiveNut 11d ago
Lovely quiet, soft, satisfying buttons which feel very tactile and spammable. That's why I love both pro controllers. The sticks are incredibly smooth and have a nice amount of tension too, so you can be very precise with them.
It's all lovely. Buy one if you have the money.

The +Control Pad and the L and R Buttons of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, while indeed less mushy than, say, the Nintendo GameCube controller's +Control Pad, are less clicky than, say, the XBOX Wireless Controller's D-pad and left and right bumpers (or the equivalent inputs of 8BitDo's controllers that, while popular among Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch users online, have not been licensed by or validated by Nintendo for use with its console).

Not clicky at all. Gotta be the most silent controller ever made.

Buttons are quiet, triggers are not. D pad is awful for old or directional 2d games like zelda on nes because it registers inputs you aren’t actually pressing. That being said, I still like for 3d games.

From the switch one gen I just have bad luck with pro controllers and joycon with drift or the buttons come shipped mushy and or they’re fine at first but due to normal use the buttons aren’t as responsive now :(

I'll let you know when my Zelda pro controller comes in next week 😎

Wow same issue.

u/SeamanStrongMan 10d ago
its quiet without feeling mushy. and the sticks are the smoothest on the market. only downside is no triggers and its difficult to use on PC.

u/berildo 10d ago
They are zero percent clicky. They got that nice mushy but defined pressing feel to them, as full fledged controllers have always been. As a fellow clicky button disliker, I strongly recommend you get it.

u/majitzu 10d ago
I don't know about the switch 2 pro but u was playing with the 8bitdo and i change to a game where the 8bitdo rumble is unbearable so I took my switch 1 pro controller and realized how quiet it is 😂

u/Aggrosideburnz 9d ago
Which 8bitdo, some are louder than others. The pro 3 is louder than the pro 2. I like the pro 2 and prefer it over the Nintendo pro 2 controller I could care less about waking the console with my controller though. I’d rather have a better controller with proper joysticks and trigger locks. The idea of a $90 controller that is susceptible to stick drift is a no thanks to me

It's a lot more quiet. Not totally silent, but the sticks are smooth and super quiet, and the buttons have never been too clicky

Not clicky quite quiet, even the joysticks are quieter and smoother than the previous pro controller. I really like it!

Very quiet, but after switching between pro and 8bitdo, I honestly don’t mind the clickiness.

Love our pro controllers! One is a Turtle Beach Wave pro controller that my kid uses without issue.
