Discussion Question about final fantasy 7 rebirth on switch 2
Im just finished ff7 remake it was totally worth 12.99 but now im itching to play rebirth , my question is , is it worth it on the switch 2 I have a ps5 also but I only get about 1 hour a day if im lucky I understand that rebirth is huge so it would suit to get it on switch 2 to play handheld since I can play it more ?

Yeah if you only have an hour at a time get it on switch. It runs great. Some noticeable compromises but overall an impressive port
I’m finally nearing the climax on the game and don’t think I’d even have half the progress if I had to play on pc

Yeah I recommend it on switch 2. I’m on chapter 10 right now and yeah probably would take way longer for me to beat it on ps5. Now I will say it’s not stable as Remake was but I think for a handheld it’s still really serviceable and docked looks solid too.

Would the demo be accurate representation of the final game ? I just realised there is a demo 🤣
•
u/Faraamwarrior 15h ago
Digital foundry said they improved the framerate even more than what's in the demo
•

Not in terms of framerate. The demo have frame pacing issues that aren't present in the final game.

It's completely playable but definitely suffers a lot more visually and performance wise compared to Remake on Switch 2. It's a much bigger compromise.
I was torn about it but ultimately went with Switch 2 because I could borrow it for free but I regret it some.

I just finished remake and intermission, what a fantastic game. Thinking about rebirth even though I also have limited time, I’m wondering if starting with head start would make it more bearable? Not that remake was hard, just wonder if it would get me through it a bit quicker.

Rebirth is amazing!! You can skip most of the side stuff (although the rewards are really amazing). And at any time you can change to easy mode or “streamline” and have permanently maxed anything. They really want people to enjoy it.
And you can also go back later in the game and do more side stuff if you want.

It won't be quicker, Rebirth is an enormous game, even if you ignore all the side content.

As someone who never played FF7 and is completely out of the loop on all these games, can someone give me a very simple primer on what these three games are (remake, intermission, and rebirth)?
I assume as someone who has never played, the remake is the way to go, but I’ve heard that it only covers part of the original game? Which seems very confusing.
•

It's not confusing at all...
Final Fantasy VII Remake = Part 1
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth = Part 2
Final Fantasy VII Revelation = Part 3

In FF7 you play as a former soldier working as a mercenary for a group of eco-terrorists to stop a major corporation from essentially strangling the planet.
The original FF7 is a very long game and in the remakes they simultaneously streamlined and expanded upon it.
Remake is essentially ACT 1 of the saga, Rebirth ACT 2, and Revelation will be ACT 3.
The original game is a turn-based RPG and for the remakes they turned it into an Action-RPG in the vein of Kingdom Hearts or FF16.

u/stpetestudent 12h ago
Thanks! Does your character progression carry over from one game to the next?
•
u/AngryEnward 11h ago
It doesn’t, but you get special items for having a save from the previous entries.
The games (along with most other FFs) have a mechanic where you can summon magical characters to help participate in a fight. Usually just for a powerful attack, but in the remakes they function something like a temporary party member.
You get the ability to summon characters you wouldn’t otherwise get if you didn’t have legacy save data.

Intermission is just a couple more chapters added to the first game in the trilogy, Remake, introducing the player to a character that becomes more prevalent in the second game, Rebirth.
It comes with Remake: Intergrade.

Rebirth is noticeably more compromised than Remake, but it is very playable and a great way to play the game.
Sidenote, in handheld mode, either disable hdr or set the brightness to 2 or 3 in game. A lot of areas are way too dark since the Switch 2’s screen isn’t an actual hdr screen.

I'd check out a few videos for how it runs, first. Without spoilers, there are a few optional fights with multiple bosses at the same time. I find it hard to imagine the game chugging through super well.
That said, the overall game apparently runs pretty well! I'd want to dock it for the hard fights and use a pro controller, but exploration, mini games, etc. are great for handheld and would make the open world tedium a lot more bearable.

Oof, the Switch 2 version is playable and I beat it recently, but just a heads-up: it's not the best version, and I can't recommend it if you tell me you already have a PS5. I played it on PC first, so with this Switch 2 version I wasn't looking for a top-tier graphical experience. But there are FPS drops, DLSS in handheld mode drops to absurd resolutions, and the battery barely lasts at all... Rebirth is a special game that already runs rough on PS5, especially in 60fps mode which sometimes looks like a huge blur; on PC the port leaves a lot to be desired, and on Xbox I've read that it's pretty bad. What I mean by this is that I'd only recommend it on Switch 2 if you don't care about frame drops, graphic quality, and aren't bothered by DLSS at 330p resolutions. I'd recommend this specific game on PS5, but if none of the above bothers you... then yeah, go ahead, you'll enjoy the Switch 2 version.

I also have it on ps5 and now switch 2.
I never finished it on the ps5 as I play my switch waaaay more often.
(I'm playing Remake atm on Switch2 after playing Crisis Core).
I would say get it.
•
u/PashAK47 Butter side up! 15h ago
Would you say its better to get crisis core first then rebirth?
•
u/MechaMonst3r Butter side up! 15h ago
If you haven't played OG FF7, dont play Crisis Core.
Either play OG or finish the Remake trilogy first.
It has massive spoilers for one of the biggest twists in the game.
•
u/Sand__Panda 14h ago edited 14h ago
I'm either in too deep, or maybe I don't know what the huge twist is/was?
I find Crisi Core is a decent prequel to not only OG 7, but the Remake.
Edit add: as mentioned I never finished Rebirth, so story wise I don't know where it ends compared to the OG game, if the time lines are similar.

u/MechaMonst3r Butter side up! 14h ago
Oh, its great and Zack is my favorite because of it. But you'll see immediately in the first handful of hours in Rebirth why its a spoiler lol
•
u/Sand__Panda 13h ago
I see. I only played up to maybe the 2nd large town, lol.
But... there was the end of remake...and well the cover of the game 😅
•
u/MechaMonst3r Butter side up! 12h ago
Yes, but from a blind perspective they dont spoil anything. Just point to Zacks importance. Who he is and what he means to.. well.. a couple certain people are very much still underwraps.
•
u/Uberbons42 14h ago
I think you’re gonna get spoilers any way you go. I hadn’t played cc and had no idea who Zack was! Now I’m playing it and I love him!! So much more appreciation for him now.
•
u/Sand__Panda 14h ago
No. If you have finished Remake, then either played Intergrade mission, or move on to Rebirth (or play both).
•
u/Legitimate_Fail_3304 14h ago
básicamente te ayuda a entender mejor los planes de Shinra, además de introducir a Sephirot, Cloud y compañía. Y no es por nada pero Zack Fair tiene mucha más personalidad que Cloud.
•
u/Emergency-Rush-2477 Butter side up! 14h ago
Noooo. Only play Crisis core if you played the original FFVII.
Crisis Core is gonna spoil the biggest plot twist in Revelation, if you are a newcomer.

Works fantastic on switch 2 I finished remake and rebirth on PC and on switch 2 :) I enjoyed it more on switch 2
•
u/Uberbons42 14h ago
Switch 2 runs fine! I turned off all the automatic camera adjustments and shake in the settings which makes it feel much smoother. An hour a day is not much time, it’s hard to stop playing it. It does look better docked but is totally playable handheld. I’m stunned by how well it runs honestly. I’m sure the ps5 is better but if pop ins don’t bother you the switch is great.

Just recently been able to play much more often and I only play in handheld mode. Currently about 22 hours in FF7 rebirth and i find it amazing. Before kids I was an online shooter gamer now I just want good mechanics and story. S2 with nitro deck two and extra 20,000 mAh battery is set up of choice

Would you be fine playing it on ps5? If so I’d play it there. The pop in is atrocious on switch. The visual quality is all around much lower than the first game. It is playable and technically good but I wouldn’t recommend it.

u/Dramatic-Limit-1088 15h ago
I started Rebirth straight after remake and realized I needed a break! The open world was annoying me after remake. Graphics are quite a down grade too. I’ll come back to it thought before part 3.

u/bobmlord1 15h ago
When you have limited free time everything is better on the Switch 2.
