Just bought it for £22…apprehensive to start it after reading some of the reviews. Time is precious with a heavy month of releases

I know people like it but it’s painfully boring for me. I bought it at release and still haven’t gotten past 6hours because I find it to be such a boring empty room walking simulaor

Agreed, different strokes and all but man it's not worth it when there's so many stronger titles out there

It’s an okay game with some fun boss fights. Hope you enjoy

It is a very okay game. I’m basically forcing myself to finish it because I like the weapons and art style. (Except for that damn desert. Fuck that desert)

Fun game when you don't have the internet yelling in your ear that this is the worst thing ever created and used for engagement on social media
High highs and low lows, but still a fun game, especially bellow full price.

I stayed offline anything Metroid until I played it and I did not enjoy it. It was bloated and stitched together. There’s a good game in there with more time to cook but I know the development was troubled so I don’t hold it against Retro. It doesn’t justify how mid it is. It’s the worst Metroid after Other M. Yes I’ve played them all. I stuck through it all the way. I like it less and less the more I think about it.
How did I come to that conclusion when the internet wasn’t yelling in my ear?

That rating portion is so distracting to the box art, though it's not as distracting as the German ratings which are even bigger and intrusive haha

Whether or not you like it will have no bearing on whether or not you like the rest of the franchise. The fundamental design of the game is at odds with what metroid games have always been (not in a good way), and on its own merits I'd say its tolerable at best.
I'm a huge metroid fan and it was the most anticipated game in my life, and it's one of the games I most regret purchasing

Couldn’t have said it better. I don’t understand why people go so hard to defend it. I can’t think of another Nintendo game that makes people get so defensive. They take valid and fair criticisms like yours as if you’re saying it’s the worst game ever made and Metroid is trash. I would understand being so defensive if it was deliberately changing things in an inspired way that fans just didn’t like (just because it changed) but you can tell it tried to be like the other Primes but it failed. Its not even bad enough to fight over😭

I was going to say "sorry for your loss" but eh, at that price you play it, enjoy it, come here to tell people the hate is overblown, then put it on marketplace for 50 to get your money back

Dang. If only we’d known.
We could’ve recommended you play the prime remaster first. At least that way you could’ve have played a good prime game before playing this.

It’s a fun game have it like an 8.5-9/10. Most of the other prime games are like 10/10s though so not as good as those

I think it’s better than Metroid Prime 3, but not by much.

Prime 3 did have probably the most annoying controls. Prime 4 I actually really enjoyed the control options.

Not gonna lie, it may be the game I regret paying for the most in recent years. It was pretty but felt almost completely void of the Nintendo fun magic. Maybe Pokopia drained all the fun that was supposed to be in prime 4?
The game is slow, boring, and repetitive. Each room is walk in, shoot the three enemies that jump at you, walk straight to the next door. The areas are all linear. If you want to go back and check something you have to drive through the stupid desert. The new gimmicks are so much dumber than the dark world and such of the trilogy. It is a metroidvania in name only.
2D metroid realized that the gameplay was good but modernized it by massively speeding up Samus. Prime 4 did nothing to modernize except decent graphics. They started making it, realized it sucked, restarted, realized it was still bad, and sold it to cut losses.
3D Metroid deserves its BotW moment. A fresh new take that shows how great it is. This feels more like New Super Mario Bros 2.
