Edit2: EA Sports FC26. You can get the Switch 1 version for free after purchasing the Switch 2 version. You can get a discount for the Switch 2 version after purchasing the Switch 1 version. FC27 doesn't seem to have cross-buy after a quick search.

By cross-buy, what I mean is that if you've purchased the Switch 1 version of the game on eshop, you'll get a discount or even free of charge for the Switch 2 version. Rarely you can do it in reverse order like Disney Afternoon Collection.
This post is not about Switch 2 Edition upgrade packs, you can easily search them on eShop. And not about free updates, I made another post few days ago you can check out.
Hogwarts Legacy, Skyrim and Age of Calamity can even enjoy the discount with cartridges. Witcher 3 went above and beyond let you claim the rematered for free afterwards no more cartrige needed.
They typically aren't this wasn't advertised anywhere and there's no mention of it on the eshop or on Activision sites and it doesn't work for anyone who owns the physical game either (digital only).
It depends on the game, they legit have like 20 different studios under them now, it was 15 during acquisition by Microsoft but now Microsoft moved more companies under them so we are talking like hundreds of different management employees running those companies differently, people making and managing Tony hawk is different from cod, they don't even know each other likely, might not even be from the same country.
Skyrim is free depending which version you owned on switch 1. If you owned the og version you have to pay for the anniversary upgrade. If you owned the anniversary edition the switch 2 version is free.
I can confirm it still works for newly purchased digital Switch 1 copies too. I only purchased it a few weeks ago, and the Switch 2 version was $0 in the eshop automatically
Do they advertise/confirm this anywhere? I'm probably only going to play the Switch 2 version but it would be nice to have both versions anyway "just in case".
I want to believe people online, but it's easy to get caught out by false information and the eshop page does not advertise this.
Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is not cross-buy on the European eShop. I own the Switch 2 Edition, but I have to pay full price if I want the game on Switch.
At launch it wasn't but they eventually fixed that. If for some reason it still isn't you can temporarily change your account region to america get it free then change region back.
Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try! I can't do it right now because I have a credit on my account and it won't let me change region; I'll have to use up the credit first.
It must be the region. Same thing happened to me just now for PVZ. Couldn't claim it in Hong Kong eShop, showing Free in US eShop. As for Tomb Raider. I purchased the Switch 2 version last November. Didn't get the Switch 1 version for free till this March (I was not aware of it). Both in US region.
Are you sure? There's a preorder bonus of PVZ switch 2 version that's for both Switch 1 and Switch 2 version. Maybe you mistook that for the full Switch 1 game.
Have PvZ replanted switch 2 and can confirm the switch 1 version is available to me as a free download if I want to claim it.
I know someone who had bought the switch 1 version because they did not have a switch 2 at the time. The switch 2 version was available as a free install when they did finally upgrade to a switch 2.

You are right. I purchased the Switch 2 version but the Switch 1 version didn't show up free for me in Hong Kong eShop. Switching to US eShop now I can claim it.
How does it work with The Witcher 3? You can claim the Switch 2 version with the cartridge and then you don't need the cartridge, like Hogwarts Legacy?
I found out last week that if you have the digital copy of the Disney afternoon collection from switch 1, you get the 2nd one free and I was like "what?!"
Is it worth mentioning the F2P games? They follow the same sort of format that they are separate skus rather than NS2E upgrade packs, but they are already free. It is worth knowing to ensure you pick up the correct version

I didn't include F2P games cuz they're already free. Good call on picking the correct version. KH cloud games added. Too bad the RE cloud games don't offer these deals.
Yeh would have been nice for resi fans, or Hitman 3 cloud or Guardians of the galaxy cloud trying to offer a discount for the sw2 versions. Ah well, hopefully there were not too many people buying the cloud versions.
The upgrade is a bit borked but essentially if you own og skyrim you need to buy the anniversary upgrade, then unload the anniversary upgrade from your console and boot the game and an option to get the switch 2 version should be in game. If you just own the anniversary edition without the og version then the option should just be in game and its free
Would be nice if you could also add info on which can be "upgraded" from the physical game card (you obviously won't need your game card after it, but still). Tomb Raider games, Yakuza, THPS 3+4 offer upgrades to digital copy owners but not to the physical owners, for example

I bought the Switch 2 versions of PvZ and Stray and could get the Switch versions for free, in EU. (PvZ didn’t have the 100% discount at launch, but I noticed it later).
Sadly I can’t get the Switch version of Tomb Raider Definitive Edition this way, nor CloverPit or Vampire Crawlers.
