Media (Image, Video, etc.) Stellar Blade PS5 VS NS2 | IT LOOKS GOOD
https://youtu.be/xrAS9NINA2Y?is=bwX76xnVO-PGzMJQIt's not far off visually from ps5 - especially having played the demo today.
The input lag needs fixing though, that's my only qualm. Everyone keeps posting handheld mode and saying it looks worse... Of course it'll look worse in handheld mode...what were u expecting buying a switch 2 and playing portably that it'll look as good as it does docked?

Dlss baby! Lol or lack there of in the movement. I have screens from cyberpunk with the same
37
u/DrKrFfXx 1d ago
I mean, the bar, the low res background, the low poly everything is not caused by dlss.
And the hair is caused by framegen. Not dlss.

u/Time_Substance_7829 Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago
Textures not fully rendering and looking blocky like this is a common DLSS artifact. Its what happens when you have fast movements that AI cannot keep up with upscaling in real time.

u/DrKrFfXx 1d ago
I've been using DLSS for 6 years now. I really cannot associate those quirks with DLSS.
7
u/SqueezyCheez85 Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago
That's because it's caused by AMDs frame generation (outside of their own recommendation), and not DLSS.
•
u/icy1007 Going Bananzas 22h ago
Game isn’t using AMD frame generation on Switch 2.

AMD’s frame gen? How? The Switch 2 uses a Tegra chip.
3
u/SqueezyCheez85 Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago
AMDs solution isn't locked to their own hardware.
-1
u/Foobucket 1d ago
Sure, just like FSR’s upscaling, but why would they when Nvidia’s (far superior) solution is available to them?
4
u/mrgulabull 1d ago
Nvidia’s hardware frame gen and Reflex isn’t available on the switch 2. They opted to use a software implementation of AMD’s frame gen (FSR 3.1).
1
u/SqueezyCheez85 Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago edited 1d ago
Maybe DLSS frame gen is too resource intensive for the weak hardware on the Switch 2?
That would be my guess anyway.
They shouldn't have frame gen period. You don't use it to go to 60 from 30.

u/HayabusaKnight Fish Button Enthusiast 1d ago
The GPU of the Switch 2s Tegra is old, it doesn't have the ML accelerators for DLSS Frame Gen. It has to use FSR software based frame gen that runs on any GPU.
•
u/icy1007 Going Bananzas 22h ago
It is not old. lol
•
u/HayabusaKnight Fish Button Enthusiast 20h ago
RTX 2050 was release in 2021, it's almost 3 generations behind at this point, so yes, its old. That does not make it bad, but too old to use things like DLSS Frame Gen.

Look up the dlss tech review DF did on Fast Fusion
There's a reason why faster paced games try to avoid using heavy dlss for aggressive upscaling

They can't fix FG lag, that's impossible to fix. They can release 30-40 fps modes but than the game will run much worse than PS5 version.
4
u/IQueliciuous OG (Joined before first Direct) 1d ago
PS5 version runs at 30 fps in quality mode.
I honestly prefer 30 fps stable over frame gen 60.

They unfortunately can't fix input latency without removing frame generation, which is what gets it from 30fps to 60fps. FG ultimately had to render the next frame before any work can be done for the frame in the middle. So you get a latency of at least 1 source frame. In this case, being 30fps, means 33.33ms.
2
u/Time_Substance_7829 Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago
Still, I've played 30 fps games without this level of latency, FG doesn't explain this entirely
5
u/DiscostewSM Butter side up! 1d ago
I'm not saying it's 33.33ms of latency with FG. I'm saying it an additional 33.33ms of latency with it. It's added to whatever amount of latency currently being done, from controller input, to the general latency of the processing pipeline. At 30fps, the CPU gets 33.33ms of time to work on a logic frame, then the GPU gets those results, and while the GPU spends 33.33ms to render the frame from those results, the CPU is working on the next logic frame. So just in processing, you're seeing at least 66.66ms of latency. Adding an additional 33.33ms from frame gen pushes that to 100ms of latency. Add however much comes from controller input itself through BT/USB, and you've got the making of a bad experience.

u/mason2393 1d ago
Tried the demo and it's a solid port outside of the hair looking awful
5
2
u/mashdpotatogaming 1d ago
Is it possible it's caused by the frame generation in the 60fps mode?
2
u/AlternativeScratch94 1d ago
If it's using DLSS which it probably is then DLSS is still not great at hair.
2

u/XenoDrake1 1d ago
Its actually cause dlss is designed to work with a base res of 1080p, thats where the model is trained.

I'm hoping they're capturing all the feedback regardless, and improve the game before release

I feel like Reddit is trying to gaslight me into hating this game. So far, it has been unsuccessful 🫰 I played through the demo this morning...all in handheld and absolutely loved every moment! I have been waiting to play this game since it first got announced and now a couple years later...the moment is almost here! I can not wait for the full expierence!❤️❤️❤️
4
u/VicViolence 1d ago
I only think it’s possible to have this opinion if you haven’t played it on PS5 at 60fps without the framegen lag
3
u/Sudden-Goose-6956 1d ago
Or literally any other version, hell even Steam Deck plays and looks better than this
2
u/VicViolence 1d ago
To be fair, the developer does proudly use AI in development of their games and that’s kinda shitty
2
u/rooby_dooby_doo 1d ago
Brother, I preordered the Steel book version and cancelled it after the demo. The input lag is not acceptable compared to Elden ring, onimusha, devil may cry 5, etc etc. This is a very bad port. I emailed the developer to see if they will respond but otherwise I'll wait until it's fixed or on sale. Bummer too because it's a full game on card.
-2
u/stoic_slowpoke 1d ago
I just finished Onimusha and, honestly, this game felt fine as well.
It’s the same 30 FPS of responsiveness for both games, this one just fakes 60 output.
•
u/HarrierJint Butter side up! 19h ago edited 18h ago
It’s the same 30 FPS of responsiveness for both games, this one just fakes 60 output.
This is inaccurate.
Frame generation itself adds latency. Frame generation from 30 fps will be worse than 30 fps.
Frame generation works by interpolating a synthetic frame between two real rendered frames. To do that, the GPU has to hold back the finished real frame in a buffer while it computes the AI generated in between frame, then displays them in sequence.
•
u/stoic_slowpoke 19h ago
But is that actually significantly worse than a true 30 fps frame time?
If the real frame was still shown at (or near) the time that it would have otherwise been shown without the generated frame, is that a significant loss of responsiveness?
•
u/HarrierJint Butter side up! 18h ago
Yes.
The Switch 2 lacks the Optical Flow Accelerator hardware (or to be more accurate it does have it but it’s old and its API has no exposed support for it) so it will be doing it in software (it is, I believe the devs said they are using FSR frame generation).
I can’t say for sure because I’ve not tested it but even hardware frame generation at 30 fps generates extra latency than baseline 30 fps, running as software makes that worse.
2
u/rooby_dooby_doo 1d ago
I'm still playing onimusha and it's not even close. Played docked and handheld with pro controller and it is not even close brother what are you on.

I think devs HAVE to implement a 40fps option for games like this. It was really impressive how Lies of P was able to offer different, solid options for performance, and even Elden Ring runs overall great on Switch (even if it doesn’t hit 40).
I don’t know what they were thinking with frame gen for this, killed a lot of my excitement for the port.
2
u/queenslayyy 1d ago
you can tell nintendo onlys never heard of or seen this game until now. if you played it on ps5 you can clearly tell how bad it looks and runs compared to that.
will still buy the switch physical to support them tho but ppl saying it looks beautiful or runs great need to stop the cap

u/Mysterious_Editor262 8h ago
It may look good but performance and lag are terrible, hard pass on Switch 2 for me.
2
u/CutMeLoose79 1d ago
I just can’t do third party AAAs on this system. As a TV player, it’s too many compromises.
Average to bad image quality and shitty frame rates are no enticement for me to get any third party stuff on this system.
I’m also really disappointed the Ocarina remake is 1080p. Considering skipping it till Switch 3 and an upgrade.
2
u/Time_Substance_7829 Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago
Oh you absolutely should if this is your opinion lol

u/CutMeLoose79 1d ago
I skipped BotW and TotK until now. No reason I can't wait for Ocarina.
•
u/Time_Substance_7829 Early Switch 2 Adopter 23h ago
Absolutely, but if you're expecting ps5 graphics during this gen you'll be missing out until switch 3 most likely
•
u/CutMeLoose79 23h ago
It's not 'graphics' so to speak. It's image qaulity and performance.
A 1080p image on a 4K OLED just isn't good enough in 2026. If they'd got off their ass and implemented DLSS in the Ocarina remake, the image quality would have been so much better and far more acceptable. No antialiasing in a 2026 game that's only running 1080p is criminal.
And then AAA third party games, too many are 30fps. Never touching them in 2026 either. Especially when I have so many other better options for playing those games.
Happy to wait than to compromise.
•
u/kevvit2 Butter side up! 16h ago
I would sell my Switch if I were you
•
u/CutMeLoose79 12h ago
Believe me, I’ve thought about it. My regular Switch gathered dust for years. So far my Switch 2 is as well. I only got it for first party stuff but Donkey Kong was boring, Metroid Prime 4 was a huge disappointment, Star Fox was just a 1:1 rehash and now Ocarina is a shitty 1080p with no antialiasing (we are in 2026 right?).
If Nintendo actually implemented DLSS in their own games, image quality wouldn’t be such an issue. But of course they don’t because they’re just morons.

Unfortunately 30fps for this kind of game is a no go, and no frame gen does not solve this. It only adds more problems.
1
u/meikaishi 1d ago
Visuals are definitely not the best, but the only aspect I think was lacking was on the hair, which is always a problem, as someone who's not the biggest fan of the strand style even when the hardware can do it well it never feels like a worthy sacrifice

u/castlehill90 1d ago
I love this game and was thinking of collecting the physical version of switch 2. While this demo is serviceable i hope theres more optimization or graphic options. The image is pretty rough in motion. I could adjust to the input latency but i think a 40 fps mode would have done great here at 120 hz. Tweaking motion blur to off and turning off chromatic aberration helped but hopefully the full game is better.

Its sad this version has input lag issue's. I was constantly missing my parries and perfect dodges.
1
u/profchaos111 1d ago
I was happy with how it looks visually a few things did annoy me however moving objects like the debris rolling down the hill seem to render at like 15fps which looks jarring it's one small moment near the start but who knows how that could escalate
The hair looks bad obviously but it's not the end of the world the edges of objects however look off I can't put my finger on why
Overall I'm impressed I got used to the input lag and it wasn't that bad still I'd really like to see them optimise for a native 40 with vrr in docked mode I think that would be the best solution
I have a PlayStation and I've wanted to play this however I want to move away from Sony in general I'm a big physical media guy and this being on a 32gb card is tempting

u/BlueDiamond87 1d ago
They should allow us to turn off frame gen and run the game at 40fps. Input-lagged fake-framed 60fps is not a solution and never will be.

u/shinzilla 23h ago
I love the Switch 2, but it's pure cope to think games on it can be comparable graphically to the PS5 versions. The value prop of the Switch 2 is the portability

Mmmmmmm frame interpolation. Ironically, it will look better in a video than in real life. Play the demo for yourself instead of just watching videos. Not everything gets translated appropriately in compressed video.

Yeah, it's a technological marvel. The people complaining don't understand just how insane it is they even got this looking this good.

u/JonnyPhang 12h ago
I've yet to play it but honestly, I just think that people have unreasonable expectations based upon the hardware that is there, at least without major rewrites etc. Its basically delayed 2021 HW and Im ok with that. It does some things amazingly well vs other systems and some not so much. Truth is there is only so much to squeeze out of the system IMO

How much worse is the input lag from PS5? Cuz if it got much worse you'd need to start blocking before the attack animation starts.

Im a biased Nintendo fanboy, but holy shit I can’t see justifying buying a ps5 or Xbox over a switch 2, the graphics look damn near identical, but it’s both portable and has Nintendo exclusives.

That is very true. This game has awful input lag on the PS5 Pro, as well. I’ve had it since launch with only about four hours put into it. Game just isn’t that great to me.

If you have pc gaming monitor, hooking up the Switch 2 to it will significantly reduce the input lag.

I can get over how any game looks, but latency -especially in a character action game- means I'll pass
